Touring with Kassim was an incredible adventure. The trip really wouldn’t have been the same without him. Kassim took us through the streets of Lamu, sharing interesting details with us about the landmarks along the way. What was interesting however, were the building and shops he chose to take us through, which also had their own pieces of history tucked away in them. Besides the historical side of the tour, we were also taken to some amazing places for photos; Kassim is a great photographer. Another good point about touring with Kassim is that he’s almost like a one stop shop; whatever activity you’d like to do in Lamu, he knows someone who can help you. He doesn’t just know people, he knows some of the best people. All in all, this is one of the best tours I’ve been on, so I encourage you to give him a shot.

I had such a great time with Kassim! From the start, he made me feel safe and comfortable. He really knows his town and shared some stories and facts about Lamu. But what made the experience even better was how friendly and fun he was. He didn’t just guide us around – we laughed, joked, and even played a traditional game at the museum (gosh, I forgot the name), which made it so much more enjoyable. We also went to the rooftop of Lamu museum to enjoy the view. The most breathtaking view of Lamu, trust me! He also treated us to a local coffees and local snacks which was such a thoughtful gesture. He sent us to the airport. I honestly felt like I was being taken care of the whole time. If you want a guide who’s not only knowledgeable but also chill and makes the experience fun, Kassim is your guy!

Kassim was quick to respond and we were able to secure the old town tour with him within 1 hour of contacting him. Thanks to Kassim we were able to better appreciate Lamu. We learnt about Lamu's history and was shown around the old town to see all the beautiful buildings. Weaving thorugh people and donkeys, side stepping pulled carts, skipping to avoid donkey poop were all part of the adventure. We truly appreciated Kassim sharing insights about the locals way of life, culture and religious practices for us to have a snapshot of the life in Lamu. He also showed us the place to have swahili coffee and local sweets - which is an experinece on its own. Couldnt be happier to have him as our guide. Lamu has beautiful beaches and buildings, but the people that we met during our trip (Kassim included) is what made it special.

Kassim is a nice Guide! He organizes groups for share costs at the activities! Highly recommend when your going to Lamu for old town or sunset cruise!

What to expect

Lamu Old Town

Will meet you at your meeting point to take you around Lamu old town, where you will get a chance of seeing the Lamu Museum, Lamu Fort, Lamu market, wood carving shops, silver smith shops, German post office, Swahili house museum with unique architecture, Lamu market, and of course the Donkey sanctuary. Also you will be getting a chance to enjoy the traditional swahili music, Lamu sea front, and many lovely streets with coral and wood carvings.

Lamu Museum

You will have the chance to see the Museum which serves to colonies the first being the Oman King and at that time it was a palace for the King, then after during the time of British when British took over it was then used as their headquarter that is Imperial British East African Company and later it was converted to be a Museum. Outside of the Museum are canons which were used to bomb the Sultanet at Witu.
