    We visited Manuel Antonio National Park near the end of our tour through Costa Rica, and while it’s certainly a beautiful area, we found it to be a bit underwhelming—mostly due to the overwhelming crowds. The park is undeniably rich in wildlife. During our visit, we spotted monkeys, sloths, snakes, and even a few deer. For nature lovers, that should be a highlight—but in practice, every animal sighting caused traffic jams on the trails. At times, it felt more like standing in line at an amusement park than exploring a natural reserve. The entrance alone required quite a bit of waiting, and once inside, the paths were packed with visitors. That said, the park is well maintained and the surroundings are lush and green. The beach inside the park is a definite plus. It’s a picturesque spot to cool down and take a swim—but with the ocean water around 32°C, “cooling down” is relative! Still, it’s a relaxing place to rest your legs after navigating the busy trails. Outside the park, there are plenty of vendors and souvenir stalls, adding to the overall touristy atmosphere. If this had been one of our first parks in Costa Rica, we might have appreciated it more. But after experiencing other, quieter parks with just as much (or more) wildlife, Manuel Antonio felt overly commercialized and a bit too crowded to fully enjoy. Overall: Worth seeing if you’re in the area and manage your expectations—but if you’re looking for a peaceful nature experience, there are better options elsewhere in Costa Rica.

    A beautiful well maintained and sustainable national park. We went in the morning first thing (a must) and saw so many animals. Our guided was exceptional and the park was the highlight of our trip. To finish the tour by swimming at a quintessential Costa Rican beach. It takes a half day and remember you can’t bring any food into the park or any single use plastic water bottles.

    I was a little skeptical when we first arrived because there were so many people but it ended up being so much fun! If you want to see monkeys and sloths, this is your tour! I definitely recommend doing the guided tour even though it cost a little more. He found things we would have never seen. The hike is pretty flat and you stop at the beach. We didn’t take our suits, wish we had. Great place for pictures and a dip in the water. At the end you get a snack of fruit and water. Highly recommend! Go early.

    A true paradise! The combination of dream beaches, lush tropical rainforest and wildlife is very fascinating. Hiking the park's trails and discovering Costa Rica's rich biodiversity is an unforgettable experience. I traveled from Peru with a very reliable agency.     Our guide, Esteban, knew where to look to spot the incredible wildlife at the park! We saw countless animals, including slumbering sloths and many lizards! Esteban was a pro at helping to take amazing photos using his telescope! We weren't sure if it would be necessary to get a guide, and we are so glad that we went with one, because we would have missed so much! Thank you, Esteban!! Also, the beach was absolutely incredible and relatively quiet considering the extreme Beauty of the whole experience!!
