Taller "Tonas y Nahuales" Angelico Jimenez Carrillo
We will have the exciting opportunity to visit the birthplace of the Alebrijes in the village of San Antonio Arrazola, famous for its rich tradition in wood carving. We will visit in particular the workshop of Angelico Jimenez descended from the creator of this art the master Manuel Jimenez, In this local workshop we will learn about the fascinating process of creating these colorful wooden figures and the elaboration of natural pigments that are a unique expression of Oaxacan art. Our guide will share the story behind the alebrijes and the tradition of tones, which are the representations of the animals that inspire these works of art. Angelico’s workshop has a gallery with a large display of pieces of different sizes all these are familiar creations and show the skill and skill of these artisans.

For lunchtime, we will visit a buffet restaurant where it will be the best time to recharge and delight our palate with Oaxacan cuisine. On the spot we will find the different types of moles, the local tlayudas, soups and stews which can be accompanied by different proteins such as chicken, beef or pork. Also the restaurant offers options for vegans as they make a wide variety of salads, steamed vegetables and fresh vegetables.
We will have the opportunity to visit a unique workshop in San Bartolo Coyotepec, where the famous black mud is made, a tradition that has been handed down over generations. In this workshop, we will witness the process of creating these exceptional pieces, which are recognized for their beauty and uniqueness. We will learn about the ancient techniques used, including the use of the pre-Hispanic lathe, a tool that has been instrumental in the production of these works of art. Our guide will explain the history and cultural significance of black mud in the community, as well as the rituals and beliefs surrounding its making.
