The Koutoubia Mosque, with its 12th-century 250ft-high minaret, is an iconic architectural muse, inspiring the Giralda in Seville and Le Tour Hassan in Rabat. Unlike Middle Eastern mosques with domed minarets, Koutoubia's square design is an Amazigh trademark. Inside, a ramp rather than stairs allows the muezzin to ascend on horseback for the call to prayer. The minaret's spire, once adorned with gold balls, now features brass balls filled with special mineral salt from the High Atlas Mountains, preventing oxidation. Legend says Sultan Yacoub Al Mansour’s wife melted her jewelry to create the golden balls as penance for breaking Ramadan fast. The salt is replaced yearly during Ramadan to maintain the spire's shine. A wooden stick in front of the spire points towards Mecca and holds flags on religious holidays. The ruins of the original prayer hall lie northwest of the minaret, believed to have collapsed during the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.

The Bahia Palace is an ancient palace that goes back to 19th century wherein, that palace used to be the official residency of the Vizier wife Mrs. Bahia.
