Domaine Skouras Winery
You drink on a Friday? They make special wines just for you. In short, they make wine that embodies the spirit of Greece and its people. Domaine Skouras is one of the oldest winemakers in Greece, dating back to 1847 when Evangelis Skouras began planting vines in his native land. It was after a punishing five-year battle with the phylloxera parasite that the family experienced a renaissance in Greece when Evangelis started to make wine. Domaine Skouras is now an internationally recognized brand, exporting its wines around the world.
Nauplion Promenade is a pedestrian promenade that leads to the sea in the coastal city of Nauplion, on the Central Greek island of Lefkada. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Greece and offers visitors views of the harbor and a view of part of Galini Beach. The promenade itself has existed since at least 1811, but was expanded on in the 1820s and the result is considered to be one of the most beautiful promenades in Greece. The promenade was constructed by Austrian engineer Johann Gatterer for Empress Marie Louise in 1811, with three arches that were later destroyed by an earthquake. The current design of the promenade dates from 1826, when it was rebuilt under the guidance of a French architect.
The Archaeological Museum of Nauplion (in Greek, Archaeological Museum of the Zappeion) is a Greek archaeological museum in the city of Nauplion, on the island of Peloponnese. It houses artifacts from the centuries of Classical and Hellenistic civilizations on the site of ancient Nauplion, which were uncovered in archaeological excavations there. The museum was founded in 1894 by the local Archaeological Society and opened to the public in 1912. It houses exhibits related to the history of Ancient Magnesia, a city-state on an island of Aegean Sea which flourished during Hellenistic times (around 300 BC).
Bourtzi Castle
The tower is an impressive work of art, known by its original Turkish name Bourtzi, meaning the Tower. The castle was built in Nafplion, Greece in 1471 by Antonio Gambello on an islet near the harbour. The tower became a landmark of the city and a strategic point for defense. In 1820, the tower was saved from destruction by Eustathios Venizelos, who removed it from the island and rebuilt it in Nafplion's central square as a part of his plan for "re-urbanizing" the city.
Pidalio Tavern
If you happen to be in the old city center during the day and looking for a traditional Greek taverna to eat at, then just 7 minutes away by foot, past all the restaurants there, you will find this jewel of a taverna. The food is honest home cooking Greek food for example great tsiporo mixed with homemade bread and it tastes amazing. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is friendly.
The Lion of the Bavaria is a sculpture carved into the rocky slope of Nafplio, an ancient town on the southern coast of Greece. This slumbering beast honors the Bavarian soldiers who died in Greece during the second siege by Napoleon in 1718. The Lion was constructed by a Bavarian sculptor as a tribute to their fallen comrades.
Mounted atop a pinnacle of rock at an altitude of some 1,152 meters above sea level and surrounded on all sides by sheer precipices, the natural fortress at Palamidi is a 30 second drive from the nearest village. The Palamidi Natural Fortress is a natural monument of Greece that dates back to the ancient times. This fortress is located in the Western Argolid, a region in southern Greece, on top of a rock pinnacle, which is surrounded by some of the steepest and most inaccessible cliffs. This fortress is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Greece and has been cited among some of the most photographed places in the world.
Fortress of Akronauplía
The city of Nafplio is known for its beautiful blue-domed Venetian castle, but in the shadow of the fortress lie many extraordinary remains, including a Roman amphitheater, Byzantine churches and a Venetian acropolis. The moated fortress of Akronauplia dominates the rocky peninsula at the southeastern tip and features an impressive central tower with balconies on every side.
