What to expect
In Azeitão at Quinta da Bacalhoa you will visit a palace with great charm, with unique architecture, decoration and gardens, influenced over the centuries by different owners, inspired by their travels through Europe, Africa and the East, thus helping to transform it into a jewel only. You can admire unique pieces from the private art collection, both in the gardens, in the vineyards and in the lake house, where you will find the first dated tile in Portugal. You will visit the museum cellar and the vineyards, which, due to the unique characteristics of the soil, vegetation and microclimate at the foot of the Arrábida mountain range, grow grapes with unique qualities. If you like wine, art and architecture, come visit Quinta da Bacalhôa and immerse yourself in a fairy tale.
Setubal District
Then visit Setúbal, the alternative city to Lisbon, where the 18th century writer, "Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage" and coach José Mourinho were born. This city has one of the largest fishing ports in Portugal, where a variety of fish arrive daily in quantity and quality. You will visit the Livramento Market and check the freshness of the fish and all the products. It is the ideal city for those who want to have a fish or seafood meal, accompanied by a very fresh white or green wine. Then visit the São Filipe Fort and admire the city, the sea and the white sand at a height of 120 meters, and then descend to sea level and have contact with the famous and paradisiacal beaches, fauna and flora of Arrábida, classified as a protected landscape. Its microclimate has some similarities to Dalmatia in the Adriatic Sea. It is integrated into international nature conservation networks – Corine Program.
Visit to Sesimbra Castle, built by D. Sancho I in the 12th century, another of the great defensive positions of the Romanesque style, which helped in the reconquest of Portugal from the Arabs. Here you can have an elevated view over the town and the sea. In this town you can also enjoy an excellent meal of fresh fish or seafood in one of the excellent restaurants, with a landscape of calm beaches. A more rustic fishing community with different habits from Setúbal. Classified as a town at the time of the discoveries. A very important fishing port in production for the Portuguese canning industry.
Finally, the visit will be to the Santuario de Cristo Rei, inspired by the Christ the Redeemer of Rio de Janeiro, opened in 1959 in gratitude for Portugal's non-entry into the Second World War. Going up to the portico is a unique 360-degree observation experience from 220 meters high over Lisbon, Almada and the 25 de Abril bridge.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
