Mount Isabel de Torres
Exploring nature is always an adventure, and even more so if you do it in places that are truly spectacular. In the city of Puerto Plata, one of the best-known towns in the Dominican Republic, is one of these tropical paradise that any visitor will fall in love with: the Isabel de Torres National Park. The beauty of its landscapes and impressive biodiversity make this park an ideal destination for tourists who love nature and adventure. Some of the activities it offers are observing its endemic flora and fauna, walking along its trails or visiting the majestic statue of Christ the Redeemer, which has nothing to envy of the one in Brazil. Since the cable car is out of service 'cause of renovation the administration has decided to take its customers to the top of mount Isabel de torres by 4x4 truck.
Cristo Redentor
Christ the Redeemer In Puerto Plata you can enjoy a very popular giant statue, called Christ the Redeemer of the Dominican Republic, which is located on the famous Isabel de Torres mountain in this city, a place from where you can enjoy excellent views from this place that can be reached thanks to a cable car to make the climb. It was built in 1970 and was installed on this mountain at the foot of the city of Puerto Plata, becoming one of the most representative icons for visitors. It was a gift from Brazil, a donation that has become a prominent monument in the Dominican Republic for Dominicans and tourists.
The Central Park Independencia is considered one of the most precious symbols of the city of Puerto Plata and has great historical value for Dominicans. It was built by the military and president Gregorio Luperón during the government he led in 1879. Parque Independencia–also known as Parque Central–is the centerpiece of Puerto Plata city, framed with royal palms and hugged on all four corners by pastel-colored Victorian-era architecture. The white Catedral del Apóstol San Felipe towers over the square, where Puerto Plateños relax throughout the day and night with friends and family. You’ll find a café, ice cream parlor, and restaurant around the square, while the city’s key museums are just a couple of blocks away.
Paseo de Doña Blanca or El Pasaje de Doña Blanca is a small Pink alley in the center of Puerto Plata painted entirely in pink. This beautiful alley is a tribute to the founder of the first hotel in the city of Puerto Plata, the Europa hotel. Its history dates back to 1898 when Isidoro Rainieri and Bianca Franceschini, natives of Italy, arrived in Puerto Plata and realizing that a hotel was needed to serve travelers, they decided to found the Hospedaje del Comercio, which they later changed the name to Hotel Europe.
Catedral San Felipe
The original wooden church was destroyed by fire in 1863 during the so-called "War of the Restoration". Its reconstruction began in 1929 and was completed in 19563, being affected by an earthquake in 1946. In 2003, a new earthquake damaged the structure, which was renovated in 2008. The temple built in modern Victorian style, follows the Roman or Latin rite and is the mother or main church of the Diocese of Puerto Plata (Dioecesis Portus Argentarii) which was created by the then Pope John Paul II in 1996 through the papal bull "Venerabilis Frater" with territory formerly belonging to the archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros.
Fort San Felipe Puerto Plata is a historic, 14th-century Spanish fortress built on a vantage point (called now La Puntilla) overlooking the bay, to protect the city’s seaport against pirate attacks. its construction was commissioned by King Phillip II of Spain in 1564, and completed in 1577. The fort is the only remnant of the 16th century left standing, due to the destruction of most of the old city during the restoration wars.
The Amber Museum, founded in 1982 by the spouses Ada (Didi) Benelli and Aldo Costa, exposes both the history and the samples of the most precious plant fossil on the planet, both from a scientific and aesthetic point of view, amber. The format of this museum is supported by an attractive and didactic content, due to its shape and the ease with which the visitor goes through each of the departments, as well as how the old building and its neoclassical gallery on three sides are adapted to architectural art. that he himself represents.
