Munneshwaram Hindu temple
Munneswaram temple is an important regional Hindu temple complex in Sri Lanka. It has been in existence at least since 1000 CE although myths surrounding the temple associate it with the popular Indian epic Ramayana, and its legendary hero-king Rama.
After breakfast, commence a sightseeing tour in the ancient city of Anuradhapura, dating back from 4th century BC. It was the capital of Sri Lanka until the beginning of the 11th century AD. The ancient city, considered sacred to the Buddhists world over, is surrounded by monasteries covering an area of over sixteen square miles (40 km²). Anuradhapura is a City of archaeological and historical interest including Isurumuniya - the first temple to be built in the island, Sri Maha Bodhi Tree- with an authenticated history of more than 2300 years which has been planted from a sapling from the original tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment, Ruwanveliseya - the largest stupa in the island, Jethawanaramaya and Abhayagiriya - which in their original form have been equivalent in size to the Great Pyramids in Giza and have thus been declared as World Heritage Sites , Twin Ponds, Thuparamaya- the first Stupa to be built in Sri Lanka enshrining the left collar bone of the Buddha, the Samadhi Statue - meditating posture etc. thereafter drive to Sigiriya. En-route visit Mihinthale & Avkana temple. Dinner and overnight stay at a 3* Hotel in Sigiriya.
Aukana Rajamaha Viharaya
The Avukana statue is a standing statue of the Buddha near Kekirawa in North Central Sri Lanka. The statue, which has a height of more than 40 feet (12 m), was carved out of a large granite rock face during the 5th century. It depicts a variation of the Abhaya mudra, and the closely worn robe is elaborately carved. Constructed during the reign of Dhatusena, it may have been made as a result of a competition between a master and a pupil. The Avukana statue is one of the best examples of a standing statue constructed in ancient Sri Lanka. It is now a popular tourist attraction.
Sigiriya Lion Rock
After breakfast climb the Rock fortress Sigiriya. Sigiriya (Lion's rock) is an ancient rock fortress and palace built during the reign of King KassapaI(AD 477 – 495). Contemporary with the paintings of Ajantha and Ellora Caves in India, highlights being the Frescoes, Mirror Wall and the Lion's Paw, and it is one of the Seven World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka.
Ancient City of Polonnaruwa
Leave for Polonnaruwa via Habarana. Commence a sightseeing tour in the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. (11th Century AD). Visit the many sites of archaeological and historical interest in the Sacred City including the Grate Statue, Quadrangle, Royal Palace,,GalViharaya, Kumara and Lotus Ponds, Thiwanka Image House and many more. And see the one of the country's biggest water reservoirs, the Parakrama Samudraya, which is compared to an ocean.
Minneriya National Park
This is an optional visit. Those who wish to have some adventure and see elephants in the wild may do so at the Minneriya National Park.
Golden Temple of Dambulla
After breakfast leave for Kandy via Dambulla, and Matale. First visit the Dambulla cave Temple.It is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding. Major attractions are spread over 5 caves, which contain statues and paintings. This paintings and statues are related to Lord Buddha and his life. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri lankan kings and 4 statues of gods and goddesses.
Ranweli Spice Garden
Later, proceed to Kandy. Enroute visit a Spice garden at Matale. Take part in a conducted tour to get some knowledge about the growth and use of spices in the day to day life in Sri Lanka.
Kandy Lake Club Cultural Show
Evening relax in the hotel and late evening, witness the Cultural Show by traditional Kandyan Dancers and Drummers including "Fire Walking".
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic or Sri Dalada Maligawa; commonly known as the ශ්රී දළදා මාළිගාව, is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha
Royal Botanical Gardens
After breakfast visits the Royal Botanical gardens in Peradeniya, It is the largest botanical garden on the island. It is renowned for the collection of variety of Orchids, which has more than 300 varieties of Orchids, more than 5000 spices, medicinal plants and palms trees.
Ramboda Waterfall
En route visit the amazing Ramboda water falls and sip a refreshing cup of the world famous "Ceylon tea" in the nearby restaurant. Ramboda Falls is 109 m (358 ft) high and 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and 729th highest waterfall in the world.It is situated in Pussellawa area, on the A5 highway at Ramboda Pass. It is formed by Panna Oya which is a tributary of Kothmale Oya. Altitude of the falls is 945 m (3,100 ft) above sea level.
Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Tea Garden
Visit the Damro Tea Factory and a Plantation to witness the manufacturing process of world famous "Ceylon Tea" and to taste a pure un-blended cup of factory fresh tea.
Lake Gregory, sometimes also called Gregory Lake or Gregory Reservoir, is a reservoir in heart of the tea country hill city, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. Lake Gregory was constructed during the period of British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873. The lake and the surrounding area make up the Gregory Lake Area
Victoria Park is a public park located in Nuwara Eliya, next to the Nuwara Eliya Post Office in Sri Lanka. Originally the park was the research field of Hakgala Botanical Garden. The park was formally named in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
Nuwara Eliya Golf Course
The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club is one of the oldest Golf Clubs in Sri Lanka. Established in the late 19th century, it is located in the hill station of Nuwara Eliya. It is an 18-hole golf course.
Rawana Falls
After breakfast leave for Yala. On the way enjoy the scenery at Ella Gap and also pass by eye-catching views and the Ravana water fall.
Yala National Park
In the evening do a half day jeep safari to Yala National park, Yala National Park is the second largest and most visited national park in Sri Lanka. The park covers 979 square kilometers, The park is best known for its variety of its wild animals. It is important for the conservation of Sri Lankan Elephants and aquatic birds.
After breakfast, leave for Bentota via Galle. Visit the Galle Fort which was built first by the Portuguese, then modified by the Dutch during the 17th century. Even today, after 400 years of existence, it looks new and polished with reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka, inside the Galle fort which is in a Dutch Colonial building on Church Street is the Cultural Museum.
Bentota is a relaxing place known for its beaches. Enjoy fun activities like swimming, water sports and boating in the area of Bentota and Aluthgama.
