What to expect
Brsalje Street
We'll begin our tour at Brsalje, right outside the historic city walls. After a short introduction and meeting the group, I’ll give you an engaging overview of Dubrovnik’s rich and fascinating history — including the story of the Dubrovnik Republic, a small but powerful city-state known for its diplomacy and impressive fortifications.
At Pile Gate, the main entrance to Dubrovnik’s Old Town, we’ll pause to admire the impressive city walls and the stone bridge once protected by a drawbridge. This historic gateway has welcomed travelers for centuries and leads us into the heart of the medieval city. I’ll share stories about how the Republic protected its freedom and the symbolism behind the statue of St. Blaise above the gate.
As we walk along Stradun, Dubrovnik’s main street, we’ll explore the city’s most significant buildings and landmarks. This marble-paved promenade is the heart of local life, both past and present. Here, you’ll hear some of the most captivating stories from Dubrovnik’s history — from great fires and earthquakes to everyday life in the time of the Republic.
Luza Square
At Luža Square, the historical and symbolic center of Dubrovnik, we’ll stand surrounded by some of the city's most iconic landmarks — the Church of St. Blaise, Sponza Palace, and the Bell Tower.
In Dubrovnik’s Old Port, once the center of the Republic’s maritime activity, we’ll explore how this small city maintained powerful trade connections across the Mediterranean. Dominating the harbor is the impressive St. John’s Fortress (Kula sv. Ivana), which served both as a defensive stronghold and a guardian of the shipyard. Here, I’ll share stories about Dubrovnik’s naval strength, shipbuilding traditions, and the clever ways the Republic protected its freedom by sea.
We’ll end our tour at Gundulićeva Poljana Market, a square surrounded by some of Dubrovnik’s most important landmarks; Baroque Cathedral of the Assumption, home to a rich treasury and centuries of history. Just steps away is the Rector’s Palace (Knežev dvor), once the seat of the Republic’s government and a symbol of its unique political system. It’s the perfect place to reflect on everything we’ve discovered about Dubrovnik’s rich past.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
