What to expect
The Clock Tower is an emblematic 30-meter-high construction that rises between the plazas of Los Coches and La Paz.
The Plaza de los Coches is the place where people entered the walled city. It was there that the slave trade that occurred occurred and it also acted as a sort of transportation hub. This is the place where the statue of the city's founder, Pedro de Heredia, stands.
Portal de Los Dulces
Find in one place, a wide variety of very delicious sweets typical of Colombia, a highly recommended walk inside the walled city.
This square is where gold, silver and products such as tobacco, potatoes, sugar, fruits and others were shipped to Spain on the Armada galleon. Furthermore, all the products imported from the metropolis came through here to all the territories of South America. The Royal Accounting Office, the former offices of the kings, is located here and is now the mayor's office of Cartagena.
Designed to defend the isthmus of Bocagrande and the Bahía de las Ánimas, this bastion initially known as the Moros, changed its name as well as its layout due to the proximity of the Compañía de Jesús school.
Plaza de San Pedro Claver
This square witnessed a life dedicated to true social work, and the pious prayers of the saint. “And the story goes that at dusk, when the sun was lost on the horizon, the saint sat in the middle of the afternoon to teach Christian doctrine to those who lived in a world of ignorance. And the sweet and melodious word of the “Slave of Slaves” took on divine modulations to instill in the hearts of those unfortunate people the beginning of a better life.
Plaza de Bolivar
This square is framed by the Palace of the Inquisition, the cathedral and the town hall (today the Government of Bolívar), that is, by the most important institutions that the Heroica had in colonial times. Currently, the Bank of the Republic and the Cartagena Gold Museum also share its framework.
This mansion located in the Plaza de Bolívar is known as the Palace of the Inquisition, since the Tribunal of the Holy Office operated there, which issued auto de fes against alleged heretics.
Its official name is Metropolitan Basilica Cathedral of Santa Calina de Alejandría and it is the episcopal seat of the Archbishop of Cartagena de Indias. In addition to being the largest church in the city, it is also considered one of the oldest episcopal seats.
In this beautiful square you can meet Gertrudis, also known as "La Gorda de Botero". In addition, we can appreciate the church of Santo Domingo, the first monumental construction in Cartagena.
The Santo Domingo Bastion was the first part built of the fortified area. On September 8, 1614, the first stone was laid in the place where Drake had attacked the city in 1586.
Teatro Adolfo Mejia ( Teatro Heredia )
It was built on the old church of La Merced and was inaugurated in 1911 with the performance of the floral games. Inside there are stairs and Italian marble sculptures.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
