Market Square

We will walk towards the market square where you will see the first two prominent landmarks, the Falkenhaus an inn built in the 18th century with a lovely rococo facade. Just north of the marketplace lies the Marienkapele (Mary’s Chapel) with its well preserved gothic architecture and beautiful statues made by famous German sculptor Tilman Riemenschneider. It’s a short walk from there to the town hall and the large baroque fountain, the “Vierröhrenbrunnen”, from this point we will be crossing the old bridge over the main river which is also a great photo opportunity. (Optional on this tour is the Marienberg Fortress across the river, which is accessible by public transport or on foot. It’s about a 20 minute walk up to the fortress if you prefer walking, and from there you will have a spectacular view of the Main river valley and the city. On the way down, crossing the bridge, we’re making our way towards the Residence, a grand baroque city palace. Located under the Residence is the Staatlicher Hofkeller. The old royal court wine cellar that offers some of the best wines of the region, a trade this city is famous for!

Our guide, Stefanie A, was the BEST walking tour guide I've EVER had. She is classy, well-spoken and eloquent and a beautiful story teller! I could listen to hear speak all day. I was traveling with a group of 12 students from a community college in Texas and met my German exchange student in WĂĽrzburg with his family who speak limited English, but because of her slow, clear and beautiful communication, they were able to understand most of the tour in English! She is so regal and such a joy and I feel so blessed we got to have her twice (part one on our arrival day in WĂĽrzburg, and then again on Sunday, December 15th. Thank you for such a wonderful tour, Stefanie, and for helping me pick the perfect wine in the Residenz Gift Shop! I shared it with friends when I got home to Texas and it was delicious!

We booked the tour for our small group, and despite the rain it was a nice and very informative tour. Definitely recommended.

We booked a private tour for 9 people. It was very entertaining and took us past the main sights in the city center.
