Oasis Dreams and Ceramic Wonders

Today was a delightful blend of cultural immersion and natural beauty here in Taroudant. As our trip nears its end, I am trying to soak in every last bit of Moroccan charm. Today was all about exploring the outskirts of the city and diving deeper into the local crafts.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Crèmerie Al Firdaouss. The name, which hints at paradise, certainly lived up to expectations. The aroma of freshly baked bread mingled with sweet mint tea filled the air. It was a simple yet satisfying meal, fueling us for the day’s adventures. Ama, of course, was thrilled with her pastries, and Klaus enjoyed the strong Moroccan coffee. I savored the moment, grateful for these simple joys shared with my family. It's funny, I never thought I'd find myself appreciating the small things so much, but life in Potsdam sometimes feels so regimented compared to the relaxed pace here.

After breakfast, we set off to Maison d'hôtes oasis de Tiout. The drive itself was an experience, the landscape transforming into a lush oasis dotted with palm trees. The Maison d'hôtes oasis de Tiout offered a welcome respite from the midday sun. We wandered through the palm groves, Ama giggling as she chased butterflies. The air was thick with the scent of dates and citrus. It was a tranquil escape, a world away from the bustling souks of Taroudant. I couldn't help but think about how different this landscape is from the Brandenburg countryside back home. While I love our hikes there, there's something truly magical about an oasis.

Next on our itinerary was Magazin De Poterie, a pottery store in the heart of Taroudant. As someone who appreciates craftsmanship and unique cultural expression, I was looking forward to this visit. The store was a kaleidoscope of colors and textures, filled with intricately painted plates, bowls, and vases. Each piece seemed to tell a story, reflecting the rich heritage of Moroccan artistry. The owner of Magazin De Poterie was incredibly welcoming. He shared insights into the techniques used by local artisans, demonstrating the skill and dedication required to create these stunning works of art. I was particularly fascinated by the Berber designs, each symbol carrying a unique meaning. Ama was captivated by the vibrant colors, pointing at every piece that caught her eye. We ended up purchasing a beautiful tagine pot adorned with traditional motifs, a perfect souvenir to remind us of our time in Taroudant.

For lunch, we decided to try Snack Havana, a local eatery known for its authentic Moroccan cuisine. The restaurant was bustling with locals, a good sign that we were in for a treat. We ordered a variety of dishes, including tagine, couscous, and grilled meats. The flavors were bold and aromatic, a testament to the skillful use of spices. Ama surprised us by devouring a plate of couscous, a far cry from her usual picky eating habits. Klaus enjoyed the tagine, savoring the tender meat and flavorful sauce. I was particularly impressed with the freshness of the ingredients, a clear indication of the region's agricultural richness.

As the afternoon wore on, we sought refuge from the heat at Care Club, a bar known for its refreshing beverages and relaxed atmosphere. While not typically a bar-goer, I was intrigued by the positive reviews and decided to give it a try. The Care Club was a welcome oasis, offering a cool respite from the scorching sun. We ordered fresh juices and mint tea, savoring the refreshing flavors. The ambiance was laid-back and inviting, a perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. Ama enjoyed her juice, happily coloring in her travel journal. Klaus and I relaxed, chatting about our favorite moments from the trip. It was a peaceful interlude, a reminder to slow down and appreciate the simple pleasures in life.

Dinner was at Snack Bistro Farah, another local favorite. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with soft lighting and comfortable seating. The menu featured a variety of Moroccan and international dishes, catering to a wide range of tastes. We opted for a mix of traditional and modern fare, eager to sample the restaurant's culinary offerings. Ama enjoyed her pasta, while Klaus and I savored the Moroccan specialties. The food was delicious and well-prepared, a fitting end to a day of culinary exploration. As we ate, we reflected on our experiences in Taroudant, marveling at the city's rich culture and warm hospitality. It's moments like these that make travel so rewarding, connecting with new cultures and creating lasting memories with loved ones.

As the day drew to a close, I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. Today had been a perfect blend of cultural immersion, natural beauty, and culinary delights. Taroudant had captured our hearts with its charm and authenticity, leaving us with memories that we would cherish for years to come. Tomorrow marks the final day of our family adventure in Taroudant. We plan to visit Dar Tourkia and meet Architect Mustapha Khazaz. We will have breakfast at Snack Asswar, lunch at Snack Jad, and a farewell dinner at Restaurant Al Barraq. Before heading to the airport, we will quickly visit CHHIPA CHOP. I'm already anticipating the stories I'll share with my friends back in Potsdam, especially about Ama's newfound love for Moroccan cuisine and the intricate pottery we discovered. Though I'll miss the warmth of the Moroccan sun, I'm also looking forward to returning home and sharing our experiences with everyone.

I am so grateful for this opportunity to share my experiences with you all. Until tomorrow!
