Today was a day of exploring the quieter, more serene side of Marrakech, a welcome contrast to the vibrant energy of the medina. I ventured out to discover the Menara Gardens and the vast Palmeraie, seeking a different perspective on this captivating city. It's amazing how much variety Marrakech offers, from bustling souks to tranquil gardens.

My day began with a delightful breakfast at Dar Yacout. The restaurant itself is an experience, a beautifully designed riad that whisks you away to another world. I savored traditional Moroccan salads, chicken with olives, and couscous. While some online reviews mention mixed experiences with the food, I found the salads delightful, though the chicken was a bit bland. The ambiance and service were top-notch, making it a memorable start to the day.

First on my list was the Menara Gardens. Arriving there, I was struck by the simplicity of the landscape. The central feature, a large reflecting pool with the Atlas Mountains as a backdrop, was indeed picturesque. The gardens, originally designed in the 12th century, offered a sense of history, though I couldn't help but feel they were a bit underwhelming compared to other gardens I've visited. It was still a pleasant escape from the city, and I enjoyed watching the locals picnicking and families enjoying the open space. It's a place where you can appreciate the stillness and the expansive sky.

It was quite pricey, but I felt it was worth it to experience such a historic and beautiful place.

After lunch, I wanted to pick up some authentic Moroccan handicrafts. I visited the Moroccan Craft Concept Store, seeking unique and locally made souvenirs. The store offered a wide array of items, from ceramics and textiles to leather goods and jewelry. I appreciated that the store promoted natural and sustainable products, aligning with my values. I found a beautiful handwoven scarf and a set of ceramic bowls, perfect reminders of my time in Marrakech. I made a point to support the local artisans.

As the day drew to a close, I had dinner at Dar Moha, another renowned restaurant in Marrakech. I enjoyed a set menu featuring Moroccan cuisine, including tagine and pastilla. I found the food to be quite good, and the romantic ambiance added to the overall experience. The live music created a relaxing atmosphere, making it a perfect end to a day of exploration.

Reflecting on the day, I realized that Marrakech is a city of contrasts. It's a place where you can find both vibrant energy and serene tranquility, bustling markets and peaceful gardens. It's a city that caters to all senses, offering a unique and unforgettable experience. As I prepare for my final day here, I am excited to see what other hidden gems Marrakech has in store for me. Tomorrow, I plan to visit the Museum of La Koutoubia and indulge in a traditional Hammam and Spa, followed by dinner at Chez Ali - Fantasia Marrakech. I'm also hoping to check out Kosybar Marrakech, a restaurant bar and spa.

Living in Potsdam, Germany, I sometimes miss the close-knit community I grew up with in Kintampo, Ghana. But traveling solo allows me to connect with new communities and appreciate the diversity of our world. I'm grateful for these experiences and the opportunity to share them with you.

I'm finding that traveling solo gives me the freedom to explore my interests at my own pace. It's a different kind of travel than when I'm with Klaus and Ama, but it's equally rewarding. It gives me time to reflect and appreciate the beauty of the world around me.

As I walked through the riad back to my room, I thought about Ama and Klaus. I knew they would have loved La Mamounia. I promised myself that next time we come to Marrakech, we'll stay there together. I can just imagine Ama running through the gardens, discovering all the hidden corners and secret paths. And Klaus, with his architectural eye, would appreciate the intricate designs and the way the hotel blends seamlessly with its surroundings.

Before drifting off to sleep, I journaled about my experiences. I find that writing helps me process my thoughts and emotions, and it's a way to preserve my memories for years to come. I also practiced some Twi phrases, trying to keep my language skills sharp. It's important to me to stay connected to my Ghanaian roots, even when I'm far away from home.

Today's journey through the gardens and groves of Marrakech was more than just sightseeing; it was a chance to connect with nature, history, and myself. It was a reminder that even in the midst of a bustling city, there are always opportunities to find peace and tranquility.

I'm looking forward to one last day in Marrakech, soaking up the culture, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
