Con Dao's Untouched Beauty
Today was a day of exploration and immersion into the natural and historical wonders of Con Dao. From pristine islands to verdant plantations and delectable seafood, every moment was a testament to the island's unique charm. It's days like these that remind me why I love traveling solo—the freedom to explore at my own pace and fully absorb the essence of a place.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at TYNA FOOD & COFFEE. This cozy spot was the perfect place to fuel up for the day's adventures. The strong Vietnamese coffee, a staple here, was exactly what I needed to kickstart my morning. After a satisfying meal, I set off to explore Hòn Tre Lớn.
Experience the untouched beauty of Hòn Tre Lớn, a tranquil island retreat in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, offering stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity.
Hòn Tre Lớn, also known as Big Bamboo Island, is a true gem. Getting there involved a scenic boat ride, which in itself was an experience. The views of the town receding into the distance and the vast expanse of the sea were simply breathtaking. As we approached the island, the lush greenery and serene beaches were a sight to behold.
The island is a haven for nature lovers, with its vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life. I spent a good part of the morning snorkeling, marveling at the underwater world. The coral was incredibly colorful, and I spotted numerous fish darting in and out of the reef. It was a truly immersive experience, and I felt a deep connection with nature.
The beauty of Con Dao lies not just in its landscapes, but in the stories etched into its very soil.
After my underwater adventure, I took some time to relax on the beach. The sand was soft and white, and the water was crystal clear. I found a quiet spot under a palm tree and simply soaked in the tranquility. It was the perfect opportunity to reflect on my journey so far and appreciate the simple pleasures of life.
Leaving Hòn Tre Lớn, I felt refreshed and invigorated, ready for the next part of my adventure: Sở Rẫy.
Explore the captivating historical site of Sở Rẫy in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Vietnam, where rich culture meets stunning natural beauty.
This historical site is a former fruit and vegetable plantation established by French colonists using the labor of prisoners. The trek to Sở Rẫy was an experience in itself. The path wound through dense forest, with glimpses of the town below.
As I ascended, I couldn't help but reflect on the island's past. Con Dao has a dark history as a penal colony, and sites like Sở Rẫy serve as a reminder of the hardships endured by countless individuals. It's a sobering thought, but also a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. The island has transformed from a place of suffering to a place of peace and beauty, a transformation that is both remarkable and inspiring.
Reaching the top of Sở Rẫy, I was rewarded with panoramic views of Con Son town. The vista was simply stunning, and I spent some time taking photos and absorbing the scenery. There's also a grotto of the Virgin Mary, a serene spot for reflection and prayer.
After a morning filled with natural beauty and historical reflection, my appetite was calling. I headed to Nhà hàng Poulo Condore for lunch.
Experience authentic Vietnamese cuisine at Nhà Hàng Poulo Condore in Côn Đảo, where fresh seafood meets breathtaking ocean views.
This restaurant is known for its authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and I was eager to try some local specialties. I opted for a seafood dish, freshly caught from the surrounding waters. The flavors were exquisite, a testament to the freshness of the ingredients and the skill of the chef. The ambiance of the restaurant was also delightful, with its traditional Vietnamese decor and welcoming atmosphere.
With my stomach satisfied, I decided to explore the local area a bit more. I stumbled upon a charming little bar called Sea sense bar and grill.
Discover the flavors of Côn Đảo at Sea Sense Bar and Grill, where fresh seafood meets stunning ocean views for an unforgettable dining experience.
It was the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a refreshing drink. I ordered a local beer and sat back to watch the world go by. The bar had a relaxed, laid-back vibe, and I struck up a conversation with some locals, learning more about the island's culture and history.
As the sun began to set, I made my way to Nhà Hàng Bến Cảng - Seafood Restaurant for dinner.
Experience the freshest seafood delights with stunning views at Nhà Hàng Bến Cảng in beautiful Côn Đảo, Vietnam.
This restaurant is renowned for its fresh seafood and picturesque location along the coastline. The restaurant boasts a stunning storefront and showcases live seafood in tanks, ensuring freshness in every dish. I indulged in a variety of Con Dao's specialties, including snails, sea cucumbers, and clam girls. I chose a table with a view of the sea and savored every bite as the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors.
Sometimes, the most profound travel experiences come from the simplest moments: a quiet beach, a shared meal, a chance encounter.
The restaurant's ambiance was relaxing, with live seafood on display in tanks adding to its charm. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploration and adventure. The freshness of the seafood, combined with the stunning views, made for an unforgettable dining experience.
Reflecting on the day, I realized how much Con Dao has to offer. It's not just a place of natural beauty, but also a place of history, culture, and resilience. The island has a unique charm that captivates the soul, and I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to experience it.
As I prepare for my final day on Con Dao, I'm filled with a mix of anticipation and nostalgia. Tomorrow, I plan to visit Con Son Island, eager to explore more of its hidden corners. I'll start my day with breakfast at Nhà hàng Thu Ba, followed by lunch at Nhà hàng Phố Biển. For my final dinner, I'm looking forward to trying The Den, a restaurant I've heard great things about. Though my time here is coming to an end, the memories and experiences I've gathered will stay with me long after I leave.
Con Dao has a number of cultural events and festivals throughout the year, including the Lunar New Year, which is celebrated in January or February. There's also the Con Dao Tourism Festival in April, featuring cultural performances, food stalls, and traditional games. For now, I'll rest up and prepare for my final day of exploration, cherishing every moment in this beautiful corner of the world. Perhaps I'll even swing by Sea sense bar and grill again for one last drink before I leave. Good night from Con Dao!
I realize I forgot my portable phone charger and raincoat. I will need to buy these tomorrow before heading to the airport.
