Day 8: Sunset Serenity in Chefchaouen: A Day of Panoramic Views and Hidden Alleys
Discover Chefchaouen's beauty through panoramic views, charming alleys, and delightful dining experiences, all while soaking in the sunset glow.
A Day of Blue Hues and Breathtaking Views
Today was a day of wandering through Chefchaouen's hidden corners and soaking in the panoramic vistas that make this blue city so special. It’s amazing how much a change of scenery can lift the spirits, and today was a perfect example of that. I started the day with a hearty breakfast and ended it watching the sunset paint the sky with vibrant colors. Days like these are what make traveling so rewarding.
My day began at Nous Nous Cafe, a charming spot known for its lovely views and good coffee. It was the perfect way to start the morning, sipping on strong Moroccan coffee while watching the town slowly wake up. The cafe's ambiance was cozy and inviting, and I enjoyed the chance to sit and plan my day while soaking in the local atmosphere.

After breakfast, I decided to head towards the vue panoramique de la plage. Now, don't let the name fool you; it's not exactly a beach view in the traditional sense. Instead, it offered a stunning panoramic vista of the Rif Mountains and the sprawling blue city below. The hike up was invigorating, and the view from the top was worth every step. I spent a good hour there, just taking it all in and snapping photos. It felt like I could see the whole world from that vantage point.

Sometimes, the most beautiful discoveries are made when you simply allow yourself to wander.
Next on my list was Derb Zaghdoud, a captivating alleyway known for its blue-washed buildings and artisan shops. Getting lost in the narrow, winding streets was an adventure in itself. Each corner turned revealed another photo opportunity, another splash of vibrant blue, and another glimpse into the local life. I stopped at a few of the artisan shops, admiring the handmade textiles and ceramics. It’s amazing how much artistry is packed into such a small space.

For lunch, I ventured to BILMOS, a restaurant recommended for its delicious food and vegan options. I opted for the veggie tagine, and it was an explosion of flavors. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. It's always a pleasure to find a place that caters to different dietary needs without compromising on taste. I even had a lovely chat with the owner about the local ingredients and the inspiration behind the menu.

As the afternoon wore on, I made my way to Le Coin for dinner. This café-restaurant has a varied menu with Moroccan and international dishes. I decided on a traditional Moroccan tagine, which was rich and flavorful. The restaurant had a cozy interior, and the Andalusian music playing in the background added to the ambiance. It was a perfect spot to relax and reflect on the day's adventures.

To cap off the day, I headed to Sunset at Sunset, a bar known for its breathtaking sunset views. And it certainly lived up to its name! Sipping on a refreshing drink while watching the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange, pink, and purple, was simply magical. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with exploration and discovery.

Reflecting on my day, I couldn't help but think of Hans and Saoirse back in Berlin. I miss them terribly, but I know they would have loved exploring Chefchaouen with me. Perhaps one day, we can all come back together and experience this enchanting blue city as a family.
Tomorrow marks my last day in Chefchaouen, and I plan to make the most of it. The itinerary includes visits to Cave Acher and the Ethnographic Museum of Chefchaouen, as well as some last-minute souvenir shopping at Original Moroccan Clothes. I’m also looking forward to trying FORNACCIO- Coffe & Kitchen for breakfast, Sandwich Chez Aziz for lunch and Assaada for a final Moroccan dinner. It’s going to be a busy day, but I’m determined to soak in every last bit of this magical place before heading back to Berlin.
As I sit here, penning down my thoughts, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the experiences I've had here. Chefchaouen has a way of captivating your heart, and I know I'll carry its blue hues with me long after I've left.
I am so glad I decided to come on this solo adventure. It reminded me of my younger years when I was backpacking through Europe. It's liberating to do things on your own schedule and discover things at your own pace.
