Today was a day of geological marvels and cultural immersion in the heart of Morocco's Dades Valley. Leaving behind the familiar comfort of Kelowna feels like a distant memory as I continue to uncover the secrets of this ancient landscape. It's a journey of discovery, not just of the land, but also of myself, as I navigate this solo adventure.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Café restaurant Ait Moujan, a charming spot known for its warm hospitality. Sipping on strong, sweet Moroccan coffee, I planned my route for the day, eager to explore the natural wonders that awaited. The crisp morning air hinted at the adventures to come, and I set off with a sense of anticipation.

First on the agenda was Azrou n itbirn, a location that promised stunning views and a glimpse into the local birdlife. While the views were indeed expansive, offering a panorama of the valley, the birds remained elusive. Perhaps it was the wrong time of day, or maybe they were simply shy. Nevertheless, the tranquility of the place was a welcome respite, a moment to breathe and soak in the vastness of the Moroccan landscape. I thought about Mei-Ling and Lin back home, wondering what they were up to. I imagined Lin would be at school, full of youthful energy, while Mei-Ling would be meticulously balancing the books. I made a mental note to buy them something special from the market tomorrow.

Next, I ventured towards the famed Canyon des doigts de singe, or Monkey Fingers Canyon. As I approached, the landscape transformed into a surreal panorama of towering rock formations that resembled, quite literally, a set of gigantic fingers reaching towards the sky. The geological curiosity is particularly enchanting, and I spent hours wandering through the area, snapping photos from every conceivable angle. The play of light and shadow on the red sandstone cliffs was mesmerizing, creating an ever-changing spectacle of color and form.

I decided to have lunch at Snack Asderm, a local eatery that offered a taste of authentic Moroccan cuisine. I opted for a tagine, a slow-cooked stew of lamb, vegetables, and aromatic spices. The flavors were rich and complex, a testament to the culinary traditions of the Berber people. As I savored each bite, I watched the locals go about their daily lives, their faces etched with the stories of generations past. I felt a deep sense of connection to this land and its people, a feeling that transcended language and culture.

In the late afternoon, I made my way to Aweddim, a small village nestled amidst a lush oasis. I wandered through the narrow streets, admiring the traditional mud-brick houses and the intricate irrigation systems that sustain the oasis. As the sun began to set, I treated myself to a well-deserved drink at Pattes Des Singes, a local bar with a quirky name. It was a moment of pure bliss, a perfect ending to a day of exploration and discovery.

Dinner was at Hôtel - Restaurant BOUGAFER, where I indulged in a traditional Moroccan feast. The restaurant is known for its cozy atmosphere and traditional decor. The tagine was delicious, and the service was impeccable. As I dined, I reflected on the day's experiences, feeling grateful for the opportunity to explore this incredible region.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, my itinerary includes a visit to the Gorges Dadés and Dadès Vallei. I am also planning to visit Riad Dades Birds, which I hope will offer another unique perspective on the valley. I'm eager to continue my journey and uncover more of the secrets of this ancient land. I might also stop by SAFOUASHOP to pick up some souvenirs for Mei-Ling and Lin.
