A Day Among the Rocks and Rivers

Today was a day of embracing the rugged charm of the Dades Valley. I set out to explore the famed gorges and experience the local culture, knowing that each twist in the road would reveal a new facet of this stunning landscape. It was a day of sensory delights, from the sight of towering rock formations to the taste of authentic Berber cuisine.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Hôtel - Restaurant BOUGAFER. I enjoyed some traditional Moroccan fare, fueling up for a day of exploration. The hotel had a lovely view of the town, and the staff were incredibly welcoming, making me feel right at home. It's these small moments of connection that I cherish most when traveling solo. I made sure to thank the staff for their hospitality before heading out for the day.

My first stop was La Porte du Dades. The views from here were simply breathtaking. The dramatic rock formations seemed to rise from the earth, creating a surreal landscape. As the sun began to dip below the horizon, I made my way to Café restaurant amazir for lunch. This charming little spot is known for its authentic Berber cuisine, and I was eager to try some local specialties. I ordered a tagine, a traditional Moroccan stew, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and complex, and the spices added a wonderful warmth. The owner of the restaurant was incredibly friendly, making me feel like a welcome guest. The restaurant was nicely decorated, and it had a wonderful ambiance.

It was a perfect end to a perfect day. I thought of Mei-Ling and Lin back home in Kelowna, and promised myself to bring them here one day. Maybe we could even convince my parents to come along. I know they would love the slow pace and the connection to the land.
