Today was a day of wandering, a day of getting lost in the beauty and culture of the Dades Valley. I set out with no rigid plans, just a desire to absorb the essence of this Moroccan gem. It turned out to be a day filled with unexpected discoveries, delicious flavors, and the kind of serene moments that make solo travel so rewarding.

My day began with breakfast at Café Restaurant ANBD. It was a simple affair, but the fresh bread and strong coffee were exactly what I needed to kickstart my explorations. The café buzzed with locals, their animated conversations creating a lively atmosphere. I took a seat outside, watching the valley slowly wake up, the soft morning light painting the kasbahs in warm hues. It reminded me of the quiet mornings back in Kelowna, sipping tea on our porch, but with a distinctly Moroccan twist.

First on my list was Dar Blues. Nestled away, this traditional Berber palace was a haven of tranquility. The architecture was stunning, a blend of traditional Berber design with creative modern touches. I wandered through the cozy interior, admiring the craftsmanship and the way the natural light played through the rooms. The owner, Mustapha, has created a menu that goes beyond traditional Moroccan cuisine. I sat on one of the terraces, sipping thé à la menthe and soaking in the panoramic views of the Dades mountains.

Next, I ventured towards the Labyrinth Kasbah Dades. The kasbah lived up to its name, a maze of charming corridors and hidden nooks. It felt like stepping back in time, each corner revealing a piece of the region's rich history. The views of the Dades Valley from the Kasbah were breathtaking, especially with the sun casting long shadows across the landscape. I explored the area by foot, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.

Lunch called, and I found myself at Soffi Cafe Restaurant. The tagine was rich and flavorful, a perfect representation of Moroccan cuisine. I savored each bite, enjoying the warm hospitality and the restaurant's inviting ambiance. It was a delightful experience, the kind that makes you feel connected to the local culture. I made a mental note to try and recreate the tagine back home for Mei-Ling and Lin – I think they’d both love it.

With my stomach full and my spirit rejuvenated, I decided to tackle the Chemin du Canyon. The trail wound through the stunning canyon, offering breathtaking views at every turn. The towering rock formations and the winding river created an otherworldly atmosphere. It was a challenging hike, but the scenery made it worth every step. I paused frequently to take photos, trying to capture the grandeur of the landscape. The Dades Valley is truly a paradise for photographers.

After the hike, I indulged in a bit of retail therapy at Queen Shop By Ami. The shop was a treasure trove of local crafts and souvenirs. I picked up a few small items, gifts for Mei-Ling and Lin, and a beautiful Berber carpet to add a touch of Morocco to our home in Kelowna. As the day drew to a close, I made my way to Kasbah planète bleue dades for dinner. The restaurant was a delightful surprise, with a charming ambiance and a menu that showcased the best of Moroccan cuisine. The staff was attentive and the service was impeccable. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing evening. The kasbah itself had a unique charm, making the dining experience even more special.

Tomorrow, I plan to explore La Porte du Dades and take a guided tour of the Dades Gorge. I’m also looking forward to a hike in the valley. But for now, I’m content to relax and savor the memories of today.

Back in my guesthouse, I journaled about my experiences, the day's events replaying in my mind like a movie. The Dades Valley had truly captured my heart, its beauty and culture leaving an indelible mark. As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to explore this incredible corner of the world. The Berber culture is so rich and welcoming. I'm looking forward to learning more about it tomorrow.

The stars are incredibly bright here, a stark contrast to the city lights I'm used to back in Kelowna. It's a humbling reminder of the vastness of the world and the beauty that exists in its hidden corners. I feel a sense of peace here, a connection to something larger than myself. It's a feeling I'll carry with me long after I leave the Dades Valley.
