A Blue Goodbye

As our Moroccan adventure draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the past nine days spent in the enchanting blue city of Chefchaouen. It's hard to believe our time here is already coming to an end. This morning, a bittersweet feeling hangs in the air as Daniel and I prepare to bid adieu to this magical place.

Our last day began with a delightful breakfast at HERMANOS. I savored every bite of the traditional Moroccan pancakes, Msemen, drizzled with local honey, accompanied by a steaming glass of sweet mint tea. It was the perfect way to fuel up for our final explorations.

First on our agenda was a visit to Hero Eagle, a scenic viewpoint offering panoramic vistas of Chefchaouen. The walk to Hero Eagle was invigorating. As we ascended, the city unfolded beneath us, revealing a mesmerizing tapestry of blue hues against the backdrop of the Rif Mountains. The fresh mountain air and the stunning views made the climb well worth it. I made sure to capture a few last photos of the blue city from above.

Next, we strolled through Bab Chaouen, one of the historic gates of the Medina. The narrow, winding streets were as captivating as ever, bustling with locals and fellow travelers alike. I found myself drawn to the intricate details of the blue-washed buildings, the vibrant colors of the textiles, and the inviting aromas of Moroccan cuisine.

We couldn't resist a final shopping trip to Chefchaouen copper and lamps shop. The craftsmanship was exquisite, and we wanted to bring home a unique souvenir to remind us of our time here. The shop was filled with an array of intricately designed copper lamps, each one a testament to the artistry of the local artisans. I ended up buying a small lamp with colorful glass, hoping it would bring a touch of Chefchaouen's magic to our home in London.

For lunch, we decided to try Restaurant Hamsa, known for its delicious Moroccan dishes with a modern twist. Daniel and I shared a flavorful tagine and some refreshing salads. The rooftop terrace offered a lovely view of the main square, making it a perfect spot to relax and soak in the atmosphere.

In the evening, we chose Restaurant Jbaria for our farewell dinner. The restaurant had a cozy ambiance and a beautiful terrace upstairs. I savored every bite of the traditional Moroccan cuisine, especially the bissara and lentils, which came highly recommended. The service was laid-back, adding to the relaxed charm of the evening. As we ate, we reminisced about our favorite moments from the trip: the vibrant markets, the stunning views, and the warm hospitality of the people.

As I reflect on our time in Chefchaouen, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences we've had and the memories we've created. I'm so glad that we didn't forget to pack our camera, travel guidebook, comfortable walking shoes, reusable water bottle, sunscreen, lightweight clothing and journal. However, I wish we hadn't forgotten the power adapter for Moroccan sockets, and the hat for sun protection. But even with these minor mishaps, our trip was a resounding success.

As Daniel and I strolled through the blue-washed streets one last time, I couldn't help but feel a sense of peace and contentment. The gentle rhythm of daily life, the vibrant colors, and the warm smiles of the locals had woven their way into my heart. Chefchaouen is a place that stays with you long after you've left, a reminder of the beauty and simplicity that can be found in the most unexpected corners of the world.
