Today, Pelion unveiled more of its enchanting character. It was a day of mythical exploration, culinary indulgence, and the simple joy of wandering through a landscape that feels both ancient and vibrantly alive. I embraced the spirit of adventure, letting the paths of Pelion guide my steps and fill my senses.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at the Mountain Top Cafe - Pelion. The fresh mountain air, combined with a strong Greek coffee and a traditional pastry, set the perfect tone for the day ahead. Fuelled and ready, I made my way to the View point portaria.

The view from there was simply breathtaking. The panoramic vista stretched out before me, a tapestry of rolling hills, lush greenery, and the azure expanse of the Aegean Sea. I could see the charming village of Portaria nestled below, its terracotta rooftops peeking out from the embrace of the trees. It was a moment of pure serenity, a chance to breathe in the beauty of Greece and feel a sense of connection to this ancient land. As someone who has found solace and inspiration in nature throughout my life, especially during the difficult times in Afghanistan, this view was particularly moving. It reminded me of the enduring power of beauty to heal and uplift the spirit.

From the viewpoint, I set off to explore the Centaurs' path.

As I walked along the path, I could almost imagine these mythical creatures galloping through the woods, their hooves echoing through the trees. The path itself was a delightful sensory experience, the air filled with the sound of running water, the scent of pine, and the sight of sunlight filtering through the leaves. I crossed wooden bridges over small streams, each one a picturesque scene worthy of a painting.

The trail was well-marked with red circles on stones, ensuring I didn't lose my way. It was an easy to moderate hike, perfect for a leisurely stroll and suitable for families. I took my time, savouring the tranquility of the forest and the whispers of the wind through the trees. I thought about Leila and Hans, and how much they would have loved walking this trail with me.

After my mythical hike, I was ready for a taste of authentic Pelion cuisine. I headed to Polydroso restaurant in Pouri, a charming village known for its traditional Greek flavors.

The restaurant is run by a talented couple who cultivate and prepare most of the ingredients themselves, ensuring the freshest and most authentic dishes. The cozy, romantic setting, combined with the stunning views overlooking Skiathos and Skopelos, created a truly unforgettable dining experience. I savored local delicacies like spetzofai, a hearty sausage and pepper stew, and lamb souvlaki, grilled to perfection. The flavors were rich and complex, a testament to the quality of the ingredients and the skill of the chef. It was the perfect way to refuel after my morning adventures.

In the afternoon, I decided to indulge in a little retail therapy at Filokaliashandmadecreations.

This charming shop was a treasure trove of local crafts, from hand-woven textiles to intricately carved wooden objects. I purchased a beautiful hand-painted ceramic bowl, a memento of my time in Pelion and a reminder of the artistry and skill of the local artisans. Supporting local businesses is important to me, as it helps to preserve traditional crafts and support the local economy.

As evening approached, I made my way to KRITSA Restaurant for dinner.

I dined under the shade of the plane trees in the central square, enjoying the cool evening breeze and the lively ambiance of the village. I savored dishes made with fresh, local ingredients, including vegetables from the restaurant's own farm. The flavors were exquisite, a true celebration of Pelion's culinary heritage. I especially enjoyed the tyrokafteri, a spicy cheese dip, and the goat, cooked to perfection. It was a fitting end to a day filled with exploration and discovery.

Tomorrow, I plan to ride The Train of Pelion (Ano Lekhonia - Milies) and visit the Pelion Cross of Jesus Observation Point. I am looking forward to experiencing more of Pelion's natural beauty and cultural heritage. I am particularly excited about the train ride, as it promises to be a unique and scenic way to see the region.

As I reflect on today's adventures, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to explore this beautiful and culturally rich region of Greece. Pelion has a way of captivating the soul, of drawing you in with its natural beauty, its mythical history, and its warm, welcoming people. It is a place where you can truly connect with yourself and with the world around you. And as I prepare for another day of exploration, I am filled with anticipation for the wonders that await.

This trip has also given me time to think about Hans and Leila. I miss them terribly, but I know they are with me in spirit. I am carrying their love and support with me as I explore this beautiful land, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my experiences with them, even from afar. Perhaps one day, we can all come back here together and create new memories in this magical place.
