Day 6: Chasing Views and Blue Hues: A Day of Exploration in Chefchaouen
Discover Chefchaouen's serene parks, breathtaking viewpoints, and vibrant culinary scene in a day filled with family adventures.
Finding Peace Above the Blue City
Today was a day of exploration and relaxation, a perfect blend of what Chefchaouen has to offer. It's amazing how a change of scenery, even within the same town, can bring new perspectives and a sense of calm. I was especially looking forward to spending time in nature, away from the bustling medina, and share those moments with my family.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Hôtel restaurant La fuente. It was a great start, filling us with energy for the day’s adventures. The traditional Moroccan dishes were delicious and set the tone for a day immersed in local culture. Sofia was particularly fond of the Moroccan pancakes, declaring them even better than the ones I make at home – a bold statement! The staff were incredibly welcoming, making us feel right at home.
With our bellies full, we set off to Park Sidi Abdelhamid. It was only a short walk from our hotel, but it felt like entering another world. The park is a true sanctuary, a green space that invites you to unwind and simply be present. Sofia loved running around, exploring the different pathways, and discovering hidden corners. Klaus and I found a shaded bench where we could sit and soak in the natural beauty. It was a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the medina. I made sure to capture some photos of the vibrant flora; my camera has been my constant companion on this trip. The park wasn’t just visually appealing; it was incredibly peaceful, offering a sense of serenity that’s hard to find in a busy tourist destination. It was heartwarming to see Sofia connect with nature, a reminder of the simple joys in life.

Sometimes, the most beautiful discoveries are found not in grand monuments, but in quiet corners of nature.
Next on our itinerary was the viewpoint. The walk to the top was a bit of a climb, but the panoramic views of Chefchaouen were more than worth the effort. From up there, the blue city stretched out before us in all its glory. It was like looking at a painting, with the different shades of blue creating a mesmerizing effect. Sofia was fascinated, pointing out the various landmarks we had visited over the past few days. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride, sharing my heritage with my family and seeing them appreciate its beauty. The viewpoint offered a unique perspective, a chance to see the city as a whole and understand its layout. I took countless photos, trying to capture the essence of the blue pearl from above. The Spanish Mosque viewpoint seems to be a popular spot, offering stunning sunset views.

After our scenic hike, hunger struck again, leading us to MIDO'S for lunch. This little gem was recommended to us by a local, and it didn't disappoint. It’s a tiny, hole-in-the-wall place that serves the most delicious and simple food. Sofia devoured a burger, while Klaus and I opted for the falafel, which was incredibly fresh and flavorful. What struck me most was the friendly service and the warm smiles of the staff. Despite its small size, MIDO'S is big on taste and hospitality. It's the kind of place that makes you feel like you're part of the family. The prices were also incredibly reasonable, making it a great option for a quick and satisfying meal.

As the afternoon waned, we decided to indulge in a bit of relaxation at Restaurant Bar Chaouen. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. Klaus enjoyed a beer while Sofia sipped on a juice, and I opted for a traditional Moroccan mint tea. The bar had a lively atmosphere, with locals and tourists mingling and chatting. We even caught a bit of a football game on the TV, which added to the vibrant vibe. The bar is known for its blend of Mediterranean, Moroccan, and Arabic cuisines.

For dinner, we chose Restaurant Triana. This restaurant came highly recommended, and it lived up to its reputation. The ambiance was lovely, with a calm and inviting atmosphere. We started with some seafood salads, followed by a delicious lamb tagine – a must-try in Morocco. Sofia, surprisingly, chose the pasta bolognese, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The service was impeccable, with the staff being attentive and friendly. The prices were a bit higher than other local places, but the quality of the food and the overall experience made it worth it. The restaurant is known for its Italian and Mediterranean cuisines, offering a diverse menu that caters to different tastes.

As the day drew to a close, we took a leisurely stroll back to Hotel Dar Mounir, reflecting on our adventures. Chefchaouen has a way of captivating you, drawing you in with its blue hues and rich culture. Tomorrow, we plan to visit the Kasbah and another city viewpoint, continuing our exploration of this enchanting town. I am excited to see what new discoveries await us, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share these experiences with my family.

Before heading back, we enjoyed a final glass of mint tea at a local café, soaking in the atmosphere of this magical town. It’s moments like these that make traveling so special, creating memories that will last a lifetime. We also discussed the possibility of visiting Hibart Souvenirs Shop tomorrow, as Sofia is keen on finding a special memento of our trip.
I am also mindful of the upcoming events in Chefchaouen. While we might miss the Alegria festival that celebrates regional musical genres , the town always seems to have something exciting happening. Perhaps we’ll stumble upon a local market or a cultural performance – you never know what surprises await in Chefchaouen ! As we prepare for our seventh day in Chefchaouen, I am filled with anticipation for what tomorrow will bring. The Kasbah and City View Point promise new perspectives and unforgettable memories. Until then, I bid you goodnight from the blue pearl of Morocco.
The thought of the total solar eclipse in 2027 briefly crossed my mind; perhaps we should plan a return trip to witness such a spectacular event in this beautiful setting.
“The best view comes after the hardest climb.” As we reflect on our day, this quote resonates deeply. The climb to the viewpoint, the exploration of new tastes, and the immersion in a different culture – all these challenges led to beautiful and rewarding experiences. And that’s what travel is all about – embracing the unknown and discovering the beauty that lies beyond our comfort zone.
