Oasis Reflections
Today was a day of simple pleasures and profound connections, a gentle reminder of why I embarked on this solo journey to Siwa. It was a day to embrace the oasis's gifts, from its legendary springs to its quiet corners, and to reflect on the beauty of slowing down.
My day began, as many have here, with a delightful breakfast at Kenooz Restaurant. Located in El Souk Square, the heart of Siwa, Kenooz offered a taste of authentic Egyptian cuisine. The restaurant had a cozy and trendy atmosphere. I savored traditional flavors, enjoying a quiet moment before the day's adventures unfolded. I enjoyed a hearty breakfast of fava beans, fresh bread, and a strong, sweet tea, fueling up for the day ahead. The restaurant is known for its great tea selection.

With a full stomach and a sense of anticipation, I made my way to Cleopatra Spring, also known as Ain Juba or Ain al Hammam. This natural spring is one of the most famous landmarks in Siwa Oasis. The spring is fed naturally by underground water. As I approached, the scene unfolded like a postcard: palm trees swaying gently in the breeze, the crystal-clear water bubbling invitingly, and locals and tourists alike gathered around the stone pool. The water’s temperature, a constant 29°C, offered a refreshing escape from the desert heat.
Bathe in history at Siwa's Cleopatra Spring, a legendary oasis where the Egyptian queen may have once rejuvenated herself.
Legend has it that Queen Cleopatra herself bathed in these waters, drawn by their supposed healing and beautifying properties. While historical evidence of Cleopatra's visit to Siwa exists, the legend of her bathing in the spring remains captivating. Whether or not the stories are true, there was something magical about the place, a sense of timelessness that resonated deeply. I dipped my toes in, then took the plunge, feeling the cool water wash away any lingering tension. It was invigorating and peaceful all at once. Siwa women believe that bathing in the spring will make them as pretty as Cleopatra.
Sometimes, the most profound experiences are found in the simplest of moments, in the embrace of nature and the quiet whispers of history.
After my refreshing dip, I decided to embrace the tranquility of Siwa with a visit to the Meditation Oasis. I've been trying to incorporate more mindfulness into my daily life since I know it is good for me, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. The oasis offered a serene escape, a place to quiet my mind and reconnect with myself. I found a secluded spot amidst the palm trees, closed my eyes, and focused on my breath. The gentle rustling of leaves and the distant call of birds created a soothing backdrop, helping me to sink deeper into a meditative state. It was a moment of pure serenity, a chance to leave behind the worries and stresses of everyday life.

Feeling rejuvenated, I wandered through the local market, the Sahara ADVENTURE SHOP, eager to explore Siwan crafts and souvenirs. The shop had a variety of items. I bartered with the friendly vendors, admiring the intricate designs and vibrant colors of the handmade goods. I picked up a few small trinkets for Aisha and Malik, knowing they would appreciate a taste of Siwa's unique culture. The shop had all sorts of interesting things.

Lunch was a delightful affair at Eden Restaurant, another culinary gem in Siwa. Known for its authentic Egyptian dishes and welcoming atmosphere, Eden Restaurant captured the essence of the region. I savored a flavorful tagine, a traditional Berber stew, accompanied by fresh, locally sourced vegetables. The restaurant's charming decor and attentive staff added to the experience, making it a truly memorable meal. The tagine dish is a signature dish.

As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, casting a golden glow over the oasis, I found myself at Nour El Waha Hotel. Though primarily a hotel, its restaurant is known for its authentic Siwan cuisine. I enjoyed a quiet dinner, reflecting on the day's adventures and savoring the tranquility of the evening. The hotel offers views of the natural reserve and Siwa Lake. The warm, gentle breeze carried the scent of dates and olives, a reminder of the oasis's abundant gifts.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, I'm excited to explore more of Siwa's natural wonders. A trip to the vast desert of Siwa and a visit to al-Mawta mountain are on the agenda. I anticipate another day filled with discovery and reflection, connecting with the land and its people.
As I prepare for sleep, I am grateful for the experiences of today. Siwa has a way of slowing you down, of reminding you to appreciate the simple things in life. It's a place where history, culture, and nature intertwine, creating a tapestry of beauty and serenity. I am eager to see what tomorrow brings, knowing that each day in this oasis is a gift to be cherished.
Tomorrow I plan on visiting the Siwa Desert and al-Mawta mountain, and having dinner at Siwa gate بوابه سيوه.
Until then, ma'a as-salama (goodbye) from the enchanting Siwa Oasis!
