Day 3: A Day of Artistic Wonders and Culinary Delights in Taroudant
Discover Taroudant's artistic treasures at Palais Claudio Bravo, explore local markets, and savor Moroccan cuisine on our cultural journey.
Immersing Myself in Taroudant's Charms
Today was a beautiful blend of art, culture, and culinary adventures here in Taroudant. With my friends by my side, I was eager to explore the city's hidden gems, from the artistic haven of Palais Claudio Bravo to the bustling local markets and flavorful restaurants. This journey was about experiencing the heart of Taroudant, one vibrant moment at a time.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Buvette des profs. It was a humble spot, but the food was delicious and gave us a real taste of local life. I always appreciate starting the day like a local, it feels more authentic somehow. Fuelled up, we were ready to delve into the artistic side of Taroudant.
Palais Claudio Bravo: A Surreal Experience
The first stop on our itinerary was the Palais Claudio Bravo. This place is truly something else. As we approached, the grandeur of the palace was immediately striking. The late Claudio Bravo, a hyperrealist painter, chose Taroudant as the canvas for his artistic vision, and the result is breathtaking.
Stepping inside felt like entering another world. The palace is filled with an eclectic mix of art objects, antique furniture, and Bravo’s own paintings. Each room told a story, and I found myself captivated by the details. The architecture itself is a work of art, with patios, fountains, and even a miniature replica of the Menara of Marrakech.
The gardens were equally enchanting, a lush oasis of greenery that provided a tranquil escape. I learned that Bravo entertained many prominent figures here, and it’s easy to see why. The serene atmosphere and artistic ambiance make it a truly special place.
Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.
We took a guided tour, which I highly recommend. The guide shared fascinating insights into Bravo’s life and work, enhancing our appreciation for the palace’s unique character. It’s not just a museum; it’s a living testament to an artist’s passion and vision.

Exploring Roudana Targanet
Next on our list was Roudana Targanet, a place known for its high-quality, organic argan oil products. As someone who values sustainable living, I was particularly interested in this visit. Roudana Targanet is more than just a shop; it’s a brand committed to ethical sourcing and sustainability.
We learned about the benefits of argan oil and how it’s used in various skincare and cosmetic products. The oil is extracted from the fruits of the argan tree, which thrives in the dry climate of Morocco. I was impressed by the company’s dedication to supporting local communities and preserving the environment.
I ended up buying a few argan oil products to take back home. Knowing that my purchase supports the livelihoods of local people made it even more meaningful. Plus, I'm always on the lookout for natural beauty solutions, and argan oil seems like a perfect fit.

Wandering Through Place Bab Lahjer
Our afternoon was spent at Place Bab Lahjer, a bustling square that offers a glimpse into the everyday life of Taroudant. The square is a hub of activity, with locals and tourists alike mingling and soaking in the atmosphere.
We strolled through the square, taking in the sights and sounds. There were vendors selling everything from spices to traditional clothing. I enjoyed watching the locals go about their day, chatting and laughing. It’s moments like these that make travel so enriching. You get to witness firsthand the rhythm of a different culture.

A Treasure Trove at Aladdin Treasure
Before dinner, we made a stop at Aladdin Treasure, a shop known for its vibrant shopping experience. As we stepped inside Aladdin Treasure, we were immediately captivated by the colorful array of handcrafted pottery and traditional Moroccan goods. The shop was a sensory delight, filled with intricate designs and the rich textures of local craftsmanship.
I was particularly drawn to the hand-painted ceramics. After a bit of friendly haggling, I purchased a beautiful tagine to bring home, eager to try my hand at cooking some Burkinabé dishes for Jan and Amina, infused with Moroccan flavors. The owner was incredibly helpful, sharing stories behind each piece and making our shopping experience truly special.

Culinary Delights: Lunch and Dinner
For lunch, we ventured to Chouwaya Tinzert, a restaurant recommended for its authentic Moroccan cuisine. The reviews didn't lie, it was a great choice. The atmosphere was lively, and the aroma of grilled meats filled the air. I decided to try the tagine, a classic Moroccan dish, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and complex, and the meat was tender and succulent.
