A Day of Serene Discoveries in Taroudant

Today was a delightful exploration of Taroudant's more tranquil side. After immersing myself in the vibrant souks, I was ready to discover the serene beauty that this 'Little Marrakech' has to offer. Jan and I, along with our friends, set out with a plan to visit beautiful gardens, experience the charm of a traditional riad, and, of course, indulge in some local culinary delights.

Our day began with a leisurely breakfast at Crèmerie Lmarai. It was a simple yet satisfying start, fueling us for the day ahead. I always appreciate these unhurried mornings, especially when traveling; it gives me a chance to reflect and prepare for the adventures to come. This morning I was excited to see what Taroudant had in store for us, and was eager to explore the gardens I had heard so much about.

Riad Asma: A Tranquil Oasis

Our first official stop was Riad Asma. Nestled in the heart of the Medina, this traditional riad was a true oasis of calm. As we stepped through its doors, the bustling sounds of the city faded away, replaced by the gentle murmur of a fountain and the sweet scent of orange blossoms. The architecture was stunning, with intricate Moroccan designs and vibrant colors adorning every corner. The staff greeted us with warm smiles and traditional mint tea, making us feel instantly at home. We wandered through the riad's various rooms and courtyards, admiring the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into every aspect of its design. The air-conditioned rooms, decorated in a Moroccan style, offered a cool respite from the December sun. I could easily picture myself spending a relaxing afternoon here, lounging by the fountain with a good book. It's definitely a place I'd consider staying at next time I visit Taroudant, perhaps even indulging in a massage at their wellness center.

Taroudant's Gardens: A Green Escape

Next on our itinerary was a visit to Taroudant's Gardens. After the intensity of the souks, the serene gardens offered a welcome change of pace. While not as meticulously manicured as some botanical gardens I’ve visited, these gardens possessed a wild, untamed beauty that I found incredibly appealing. The air was filled with the scent of various plants and flowers, and the sounds of birds chirping created a peaceful symphony. We strolled along winding paths, admiring the diverse array of flora. The gardens provided a glimpse into the natural beauty of the Souss region, and I felt a sense of tranquility as I wandered through this green escape. It was the perfect place to reconnect with nature and appreciate the simpler things in life. Even in December, the weather was mild and breezy, making it a comfortable experience.

Sometimes, the most rewarding experiences are found not in grand monuments, but in the quiet corners of a city, where nature and culture intertwine.

Domaine Villa Talaa: An Afternoon Retreat

In the afternoon, we ventured slightly outside the city to Domaine Villa Talaa. This resort was a true gem, offering a blend of luxury and tranquility. The architecture was stunning, with traditional Moroccan elements combined with modern amenities. As we explored the grounds, I was struck by the attention to detail and the seamless integration of the resort with the surrounding landscape. The gardens were beautifully landscaped, with vibrant flowers and lush greenery creating a serene atmosphere. The swimming pool looked incredibly inviting, though it might have been a bit too chilly for a swim in December. Instead, we opted to relax on the terrace, sipping mint tea and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. It was the perfect place to unwind and recharge after a busy day of exploring. Domaine Villa Talaa truly felt like a hidden paradise, and I can understand why so many visitors rave about its charm and hospitality. The resort also offers activities like cycling, horse riding and hiking. It's located about 7km from the Stadtmauer Taroudant.

A Culinary Journey: Lunch and Dinner

For lunch, we decided to try Snack Big, a local eatery known for its affordable and tasty dishes. While the restaurant itself was unassuming, the food was surprisingly good. I opted for a traditional Moroccan tagine, which was rich in flavor and perfectly spiced. The portions were generous, and the prices were incredibly reasonable. It was a great way to experience the local cuisine without breaking the bank. The friendly atmosphere and the authentic flavors made it a memorable lunch spot. I even tried to practice my French with the owner, which led to a few laughs and a better connection. Jan had a pizza and enjoyed it.

As evening approached, our appetites led us to Royal Snack for dinner. This cozy eatery offered a variety of halal dishes and all-you-can-eat options. We decided to try their tacos and chicken dishes, which were both delicious and satisfying. The restaurant was bustling with locals, creating a lively and authentic atmosphere. It was the perfect place to end our day, enjoying good food and good company. I noticed they also offer omelettes and youtiao. The service was quick and efficient, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Royal Snack is definitely a spot I'd recommend to anyone looking for a casual and affordable meal in Taroudant.

Nightcap at Complex Noblesse

To cap off our evening, we decided to visit Complex Noblesse for a nightcap. This bar had a unique ambiance, and we enjoyed sipping on some local drinks while soaking in the atmosphere. The service was excellent, and the staff was attentive and friendly. It was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on the day's adventures. However, it seems like some visitors had issues with price changes. I made sure to double check the prices before ordering, just in case. Despite the mixed reviews, we had a pleasant experience and enjoyed the lively atmosphere.

Reflections on Taroudant

Today was a reminder that travel isn't always about ticking off famous landmarks. Sometimes, the most rewarding experiences are found in the quiet moments – a peaceful garden, a charming riad, or a delicious meal shared with friends. Taroudant has a way of slowing you down and inviting you to appreciate the simple things in life. As I reflect on the day, I feel grateful for the opportunity to experience this unique city and its hidden treasures.

As we prepare for tomorrow, I'm excited to explore more of Taroudant's historical sites, including Bab Ouled Bounouna, Dar Tourkia, and Sucrerie Machraa al Ain. I'm also looking forward to trying new restaurants and perhaps doing some shopping at De Velasco Boutique. Until then, I'll cherish the memories of today and look forward to more adventures in this enchanting Moroccan town.
