Discovering Taroudant's Charms

Today was a day of diving deeper into the heart of Taroudant, a city that continues to surprise me with its blend of history, culture, and serene beauty. It's amazing how much this 'Little Marrakech' has to offer, and I'm so excited to share my experiences with you all.

Our day started with a delightful breakfast at Snack Yummy. The name certainly lived up to the experience! It was a simple yet satisfying meal, the perfect fuel for a day of exploration. I had some traditional Moroccan pancakes, which were light, fluffy, and drizzled with local honey. Amina absolutely loved them, and Jan enjoyed a strong coffee to kickstart his day. It's these small, authentic moments that really make a trip special.

Our first stop was Dar El Baroud, a historical landmark that whispers tales of Taroudant's past. Known as the house of gunpowder, it was once an arsenal during the city's most glorious period under the Saadian dynasty. Although we couldn't go inside, the architecture was magnificent even from the outside, with Berber decorations adorning the walls. The towering palms and jacaranda trees in the courtyard hinted at a rich history. It was easy to imagine the echoes of the past resonating within those walls.

Next, we ventured to Dar al Hossoun, an eco-garden lodge that felt like stepping into another world. This place is truly an oasis of tranquility, with over 900 different species of plants from around the globe. Designed by landscape architects Eric Ossart and Arnaud Maurières, the gardens are a sight to behold. We spent hours wandering through the labyrinth of courtyards, admiring the diverse collection of succulents, aloes, and palm trees. The air was filled with the sweet scent of exotic flowers, and the only sounds were the gentle rustling of leaves and the chirping of birds. It was a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

For lunch, we decided to try Snack Tchika. This modest restaurant on Boulevard Al Moukaouama offered a taste of local flavors. We enjoyed some delicious small plates and a shellfish pizza that was surprisingly good. The atmosphere was family-friendly, and the service was pleasant. It was a great spot to relax and refuel before continuing our adventures. Amina was delighted with her pizza, and Jan and I enjoyed the local vibe.

After lunch, we visited Cooperative Amagor Argan, where we learned about the process of making argan oil. It was fascinating to see how the local women extract the oil from the argan nuts, a tradition passed down through generations. I bought a few bottles of argan oil to take back home – a perfect souvenir and a way to support the local community. I'm always drawn to products that have a story and contribute to sustainable practices.

Our final stop of the day was Maison d'hôtes oasis de tiout, located in the heart of a stunning palm oasis. Although we didn't stay overnight, we enjoyed exploring the area and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. The guesthouse is known for its warm hospitality and delicious home-cooked meals. We took a short walk through the palm groves, admiring the lush greenery and the traditional Berber architecture. It was a serene and beautiful way to end our day.

For dinner, we opted for something a little different and tried SuchiCafé Restaurant Perla. This place is known for its fusion of Moroccan and contemporary cuisine. I had a tagine with a modern twist, and Jan tried some of their sushi. It was an interesting culinary experience, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. Amina enjoyed some of the more familiar options on the menu, and we all left feeling satisfied.

As the day comes to a close, I am sitting here reflecting on the beauty and tranquility of Taroudant. Tomorrow, we plan to visit Riad Asma, Taroudant's Gardens, and Domaine Villa Talaa [cite: null]. I'm particularly excited about exploring the gardens and seeing more of the local flora. I'm also looking forward to trying some local snacks at Complex Noblesse [cite: null]. It’s moments like these, shared with friends, that make traveling so rewarding. I feel grateful for the opportunity to experience the rich culture and warm hospitality of Morocco. I am also thinking about my family back in Burkina Faso and hoping that they are doing well. I have not seen them for a while, and I miss them dearly. I hope that one day I will be able to bring them here to experience the beauty of Morocco with me.

Taroudant, with its serene atmosphere and rich cultural heritage, has truly captured my heart. It's a reminder that sometimes the most profound experiences are found in the quiet corners of the world, away from the well-trodden tourist paths. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Thinking about the recent Gen Z protests in Morocco, it's clear that there's a strong desire for change and improvement in public services. It's inspiring to see young people standing up for their beliefs and demanding a better future. I hope that their voices are heard and that positive changes are made.

The sun has set, casting a warm glow over Taroudant. It's time to rest and recharge for another day of exploration. Goodnight, everyone, and see you tomorrow!

Oh, and I almost forgot! I realized I forgot to pack a travel adapter and sunscreen. Lesson learned: always double-check your packing list, even if you think you have everything covered!
