Riverside Reflections and Ancient Echoes
Today in Hoi An was a beautiful blend of serene landscapes and historical exploration. I woke up with a sense of excitement, ready to immerse myself in the town's cultural heart. I couldn't wait to see what hidden gems awaited us, and Hoi An certainly didn't disappoint.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Flower restaurant. The ambiance was charming, adorned with floral decor and soft lighting, creating a warm and welcoming environment. I savored a traditional Vietnamese Pho, while David enjoyed fresh spring rolls, and Thandi had a bit of both. The friendly staff made us feel right at home, sharing stories about local culinary traditions. It was the perfect start to a day of exploration.

After breakfast, we set out to explore the Thu Bồn River. The river is the heart of Hoi An, and I was eager to experience its beauty firsthand. We took a leisurely boat trip, gliding along the calm waters as we soaked in the picturesque landscapes. The vibrant colors of the traditional wooden houses lining the riverbanks were a sight to behold. Thandi was especially thrilled, pointing out the colorful boats and waving at the friendly locals.

The Thu Bồn River isn't just a waterway; it's a lifeline that connects the past and present, offering a serene glimpse into Hoi An's soul.
As we floated along, I couldn't help but reflect on the river's historical significance. It once served as a vital trading route, connecting Hoi An to other parts of Southeast Asia. The river played a significant role in shaping Hoi An's identity as a bustling port town, and it's easy to see why. The blend of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese influences is evident in every corner of this ancient town.
Next on our itinerary was a visit to an Ancient House. We chose to explore Quan Thang Ancient House, known for its well-preserved architecture and historical significance. Built in the 18th century, this house was originally owned by a Chinese captain and merchant named Quan Thang. It served as both a trading place and a residence.

Stepping inside, I felt like I was transported back in time. The intricate wood carvings and traditional design elements were truly remarkable. Thandi was fascinated by the antique furnishings and kept asking questions about the people who used to live there. It was a wonderful opportunity to teach her about history and culture in a tangible way. The house reflects the cultural exchange between Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese influences that have shaped Hoi An over the centuries.
For lunch, we decided to try Song thanh Riverside Restaurant. It was conveniently situated along the Thu Bồn River, offering a stunning view of Hoi An Memories Island. The restaurant had a cozy spot by the river, offering delicious food at moderate prices. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. David and I shared fried rice with chicken satay skewers, while Thandi enjoyed crab fried rolls.

In the late afternoon, we took a stroll through the town, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. The streets were bustling with activity, and the aroma of street food filled the air. We stumbled upon a local tailor shop, and Thandi insisted on getting a custom-made dress. It was a fun experience, and she was thrilled with her new outfit.
As the sun began to set, we made our way to KoFi Hoi An - Cocktail bar. Tucked away in a small alley, this charming bar offered a perfect retreat from the bustling streets. The cozy spot provided outdoor seating upstairs, allowing us to enjoy a unique view of the city's rooftops. David and I savored expertly crafted cocktails, while Thandi enjoyed a refreshing juice. The bar had a fairy tale-like atmosphere with friendly service and delicious cocktails. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring.

The restaurant had a charming ambiance, with a lovely garden setting. We ordered a variety of local specialties, including Cao Lau and Banh Xeo. The flavors were incredible, and the staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel like family. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.
