Serenity and Savor: A Day on Hvar

Today was all about embracing the simple pleasures of Hvar, from tranquil gardens to the rich tastes of Dalmatian cuisine. It was a day to slow down, soak in the atmosphere, and appreciate the little things that make this island so special. I even managed to find a coffee shop that would make Maximilian proud!

My morning began with a delightful breakfast at Gariful. I chose a spot right by the waterfront, watching the fishing boats bobbing gently in the harbor. The restaurant is known for its fresh seafood, and I couldn't resist trying their lobster carpaccio. The flavors were so delicate, a perfect start to the day. Gariful has a long history here, and you can tell they really care about quality and tradition. The staff was incredibly welcoming, making me feel right at home. It’s fascinating to think that this restaurant started as a family business, named after the Dalmatian word for carnation, symbolizing admiration and respect.

After breakfast, I decided to explore Floriana Park. It was a pleasant walk from the harbor, and I soon found myself surrounded by lush greenery and the calming sounds of nature. The park is beautifully maintained, with winding paths and hidden benches perfect for quiet contemplation. I spent a couple of hours wandering through the gardens, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. It’s a lovely contrast to the bustling town center. I read that the owner of Floriana Park also manages a hunting ground but has expressed concern regarding the damage to local agriculture caused by deer. It's a reminder that even in paradise, there are challenges to be addressed.

For lunch, I ventured to Konoba Bonaca. This charming restaurant is nestled in the harbor, offering stunning views of the sea. I opted for the grilled octopus, a Dalmatian classic, and it was absolutely divine. The octopus was tender and flavorful, perfectly seasoned with local herbs and olive oil. Konoba Bonaca is a family-run establishment, and the warmth and hospitality of the staff made the experience even more enjoyable. The owner and chef, Dražen Bonković, comes from a family with a long culinary history in Hvar, which is evident in the quality and authenticity of the dishes.

In the afternoon, I strolled through the town, eventually stumbling upon Coffee Snob. As many of you know, Maximilian and I are quite particular about our coffee, so I had to check it out. This place is a gem! The baristas are passionate about their craft, and the coffee is exceptional. I ordered a cappuccino, and it was perfectly brewed, with a rich aroma and smooth, creamy texture. Coffee Snob has a minimalist interior, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. It's a relatively new addition to Hvar's café scene, having opened in June 2023, but it has quickly become a favorite among locals and tourists alike. I can see why! I picked up a bag of beans to take home to Maximilian; I know he'll appreciate it.

As evening approached, I decided to experience Hvar’s nightlife at Central Park Club. This lively bar is known for its live music and vibrant atmosphere. I enjoyed a glass of local wine while listening to a fantastic band play classic rock and soul. The crowd was a mix of locals and tourists, all enjoying the music and the lively ambiance. Central Park Club is open from morning until the early hours, offering a range of experiences from breakfast to late-night parties. They even host special events and themed nights, adding to the excitement.

For dinner, I chose Kod Kapetana. This family-run tavern offers a delightful dining experience with a beautiful terrace overlooking the harbor. I started with marinated anchovies, followed by grilled fish, both were incredibly fresh and flavorful. Kod Kapetana is known for its Dalmatian classics, and the friendly staff made me feel like part of their family. The prices are also very reasonable, making it a great option for a delicious and affordable meal. I read a review that Kod Kapetana is known for baked fish, calamari, mussels, tuna steak, octopus, and swordfish. I will have to try those next time!

Before heading back to my accommodation, I took one last stroll along the harbor, soaking in the magical atmosphere of Hvar at night. The lights twinkled on the water, and the air was filled with the sounds of laughter and music. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

Tomorrow, I plan to explore more of Hvar’s natural beauty, including Napoleon and Sveta Nedjelja - Bay Lučišća. I’m also looking forward to trying Spice Asian Food for breakfast, Konoba Menego for lunch, and Passarola Restaurant for dinner. And, of course, I’ll need to stop by aROMA gelato experience Boutique Hvar for a sweet treat and Carpe Diem Beach Hvar for a drink.

This trip has been an incredible experience so far. Hvar has a way of captivating you with its beauty, charm, and rich culture. I’m grateful for the opportunity to explore this enchanting island and share my adventures with you all. Now, it is time to rest and get ready for the final day of my solo adventure!
