Finding Peace in Hoi An's Timeless Embrace

Today was a day of quiet contemplation and cultural immersion here in Hoi An. I set out to explore the town's artistic side and historical depths, and ended up finding a sense of peace I didn't know I was searching for. It's amazing how a place can resonate with you on such a deep level; Hoi An has definitely worked its magic on me.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Circle Restaurant | Hoi An Burgers and Tacos by Circle Cafe. It's funny, isn't it? Here I am in Vietnam, eager to soak up all the local culture, and I start my day with a burger ! But I had heard whispers of their 'Juicy Lucy', a burger with cheddar cheese inside the patty, and I couldn't resist. It was a delightful start, setting me up perfectly for a day of exploring.

First on my list was the Hoi An Sculpture Promenade. As I strolled along the Thu Bon River, I was immediately struck by the contemporary stone sculptures that lined the walkway. Each piece seemed to tell a story, a silent dialogue between the artist and the viewer. The craftsmanship was remarkable, and the setting—with the river flowing gently beside the art—created a serene atmosphere. It was a perfect spot for reflection, and I found myself lost in thought, contemplating the meaning behind each sculpture.

Sometimes, the most profound connections are found in the quietest corners of the world.

Next, I paid my respects at the Memory Statue of Kazimierz Kwiatkowski. I must admit, I didn't know much about him before today, but I quickly learned that he was a Polish architect who played a crucial role in preserving Hoi An's unique heritage. The statue stands as a tribute to his dedication and vision. As I stood there, I thought about how one person's passion can have such a lasting impact on a community. It was truly inspiring.

Lunch was at Madam Kieu Vietnamese Restaurant. I decided to fully embrace the Vietnamese cuisine and ordered a selection of local delicacies. The restaurant was in a prime location, offering stunning views of the Thu Bon River. The food was delicious, bursting with vibrant flavors and fresh ingredients. It was a culinary journey that perfectly complemented my cultural exploration of Hoi An.

After lunch, I ventured to the Quan Cong Temple, also known as Ong Pagoda. This ancient temple, founded in 1653 by Chinese immigrants, is dedicated to Quan Cong, a revered Chinese general known for his loyalty and integrity. As I stepped inside, I was immediately transported back in time. The intricate architecture, the smell of incense, and the hushed reverence of the space created a powerful sense of history. I admired the gilded statue of Quan Cong and the various historical artifacts housed within the temple. It was a truly unmissable holy shrine.

As the sun began to set, I found myself drawn to The Shamrock Irish Pub Hoi An. I know, another non-Vietnamese choice, but I was in need of a little relaxation and a cold drink. The pub had a lively atmosphere, with live music and a friendly crowd. I enjoyed a cocktail while watching the sunset over the river, the lanterns twinkling to life as darkness fell. It was a perfect end to a day of exploration and reflection.

Tonight, I'm feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience Hoi An's charm and history. It's a place that stays with you, long after you've left its ancient streets. I'm also feeling a bit tired and will get some rest at Hadana Boutique Resort HoiAn (former Belle Maison Hadana HoiAn), before I start exploring again tomorrow.

Tomorrow, I plan to delve even deeper into the local culture with a visit to the Hoi An Village Experience and the Hoi An Handicraft Village. I'm particularly excited to see the artisans at work in Làng mộc Kim Bồng, a traditional woodworking village. I am also planning on having breakfast at Nhan's Kitchen, lunch at Old Garden Restaurant and dinner at CHÂU Kitchen & Bar. And maybe I will go shopping at Sunday in Hoi An. I am looking forward to discovering more hidden gems in this enchanting town.
