Exploring the Blue Pearl of Morocco: A Journey to Chefchaouen
Day 7: Chasing Views and Bargains in Chefchaouen: A Day of Exploration
Discover Chefchaouen's panoramic views from Hero Eagle and City View Point, savor local cuisine, and shop for unique souvenirs.
A Bird's-Eye View and Treasure Hunting
Today was all about soaking in the breathtaking views of Chefchaouen and diving into the local culture through its food and crafts. It’s amazing how a change in perspective, both literally and figuratively, can enrich an experience. I felt a sense of accomplishment conquering the heights and a childlike joy discovering hidden gems in the shops.
My day began with a delightful breakfast at Restaurant Ali Baba. Klaus and I shared a traditional Moroccan breakfast, which included Msemen, a flaky pancake, drizzled with local honey, accompanied by a steaming pot of mint tea. The strong, sweet tea was the perfect start to a day of exploring. Restaurant Ali Baba is known for its great service and friendly staff. I was happy to find vegetarian options. After breakfast, we set off to conquer the Hero Eagle.

The walk to Hero Eagle was invigorating. The air was crisp, and the views along the way were already captivating. The path was lined with local flora, offering glimpses of traditional Moroccan life. As we ascended, the city unfolded beneath us, a mesmerizing tapestry of blue hues stretching across the Rif Mountains. When we reached Hero Eagle, the panoramic vista was simply breathtaking. I spent a good hour there, just soaking it all in and capturing photos from every angle. Klaus, ever the patient one, entertained himself by identifying the various peaks in the distance. It was a perfect spot to appreciate the unique architecture and serene atmosphere of Chefchaouen.
Sometimes, the best souvenirs aren't things, but moments – the feeling of the sun on your face as you gaze upon a stunning view, the taste of a new spice, the sound of laughter shared with friends.
Next on the agenda was the City View Point.
Experience stunning panoramic views of Chefchaouen's blue cityscape from the breathtaking City View Point, a must-visit tourist attraction in Morocco.
The walk to City View Point was equally rewarding. The path was a bit steep in areas, but the views were more than worth the effort. As we climbed, we were treated to stunning views of the blue-washed buildings nestled among the rugged mountains. The contrast of the vibrant blue structures against the earthy tones of the landscape was mesmerizing. From City View Point, the entire city sprawled before us, a sea of blue broken only by the occasional splash of green from a garden or the terracotta roof of a building. I could see the Kasbah, which we plan to visit tomorrow, standing proudly in the heart of the medina. We spent a long time at City View Point, simply enjoying the view and the peaceful atmosphere. The soft light of the late afternoon cast a magical glow over the town, enhancing its unique charm and allure.
After our fill of panoramic views, it was time for lunch. We decided to try Restaurant Hamsa.

It was a delightful experience. We enjoyed a light lunch of Moroccan salads and grilled vegetables, savoring the fresh flavors and spices. Restaurant Hamsa had a welcoming atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and attentive.
With our bellies full, we ventured into the souk, eager to explore the local shops. Our destination was Jabir shop chefchaouen.

The shop was a treasure trove of handcrafted items, from colorful ceramics to intricate metalwork. I was particularly drawn to the pottery, with its vibrant colors and unique designs. I ended up purchasing a beautiful tagine, which I plan to use to recreate some of the delicious dishes I’ve tasted here in Chefchaouen. Klaus, meanwhile, found a beautiful hand-woven rug that he insisted we needed for our living room back in Heidelberg. Haggling with the shopkeeper was an experience in itself, a dance of offers and counteroffers conducted with good humor and a shared understanding of the game. I am getting better at haggling, thanks to the shop owners' patience.
As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Restaurant populaire.
Experience authentic Moroccan cuisine at Restaurant Populaire in Chefchaouen, where every dish is a celebration of local flavors and culinary traditions.
The restaurant was bustling with locals and tourists alike, creating a lively and convivial atmosphere. We shared a hearty tagine, savoring the rich flavors and tender meat. As we ate, we reflected on the day’s adventures, the stunning views, the delicious food, and the unique treasures we had discovered in the souk. We also talked about tomorrow's itinerary: the Kasbah and Bab El Hammar. What a day it has been! Chefchaouen continues to enchant me with its beauty, its culture, and its warm and welcoming people. I am so grateful for this experience and excited for what tomorrow will bring. It is time to head back to Hotel Dar Mounir.
