A Final Day in Blue

As my solo adventure in Chefchaouen draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the unique charm of this blue-washed city. It’s hard to believe it’s already the final day of my trip. This week has been a whirlwind of cultural immersion, breathtaking views, and unexpected discoveries. I've savored every moment, from the bustling markets to the tranquil mountain vistas, and I'm eager to share my last day's experiences before heading back to Berlin.

I started my day with a delightful breakfast at Café Restaurant Marisco Twins. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the taste of traditional Moroccan pastries filled the air, providing the perfect fuel for my final explorations. It was a beautiful morning, the sun casting a warm glow on the blue-washed streets, making everything seem even more magical. I sat outside, enjoying the gentle breeze and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere one last time. It’s these simple moments, the quiet mornings with a good breakfast, that I find myself cherishing the most when I travel solo. It gives me a chance to really observe and appreciate the details around me.

After breakfast, I decided to immerse myself in the local culture at the Ethnographic Museum of Chefchaouen. Housed within the Kasbah, the museum offered a fascinating glimpse into the history and traditions of the Rif region. I wandered through the exhibits, admiring the displays of traditional clothing, Berber carpets, and ancient artifacts. Each item told a story, painting a vivid picture of the people who have called this region home for centuries.

The museum is located in the heart of the city's medina, specifically within the citadel or kasbah located in the Plaza Uta el-Hammam in Chefchaouen. The building itself is a piece of history, and I was impressed by the Andalusian-style architecture and the serene courtyard garden. The museum is open daily, and the admission fee is quite reasonable. Inside, I found a treasure trove of information about the local Berber community, their customs, and their daily life. The Ethnographic Museum of Chefchaouen is undoubtedly one of the best museums in Morocco. There is no doubt that a visit to the beautiful blue city of Chefchaouen should include a tour of this ethnographic museum and more if you are a lover of these sites. In this place you will be able to enjoy a quantity of representative objects of the culture of the region and to know closely the art of the inhabitants of the north of the country.

Leaving the museum, I strolled towards Bab El Hammar, one of the ancient gates of the city. As I walked through the gate, I couldn't help but feel a sense of stepping back in time. The architecture was stunning, and the atmosphere was thick with history. I paused to take a few photos, capturing the moment and the beautiful surroundings. Bab El Hammar stands as a testament to the city's rich heritage, a reminder of the many stories woven into its blue walls.

For lunch, I ventured to Restaurant Blue Dream, drawn in by its inviting ambiance and the promise of authentic Moroccan cuisine. I wasn't disappointed. I savored a flavorful tagine, the tender meat and aromatic spices creating a symphony of tastes that danced on my palate. The restaurant itself was a cozy haven, adorned with traditional décor and offering stunning views of the city. It was the perfect spot to relax and reflect on my journey.

In the afternoon, I indulged in some last-minute souvenir shopping at CHAOUEN GIFTS. I wanted to find something special to remind me of my time here, a tangible piece of Chefchaouen to take back to Berlin. The shop was a treasure trove of local crafts, from colorful ceramics to intricately woven textiles. I finally settled on a beautiful hand-painted bowl, its vibrant blue hues mirroring the city itself. I know Sophie will adore it, and it will be a lovely addition to our home.

As the day wore on, I found myself drawn back to the heart of the medina, wandering through the narrow, winding streets. I wanted to soak in every last bit of the city's magic, to etch the sights, sounds, and smells into my memory. I paused to watch the locals going about their daily lives, the children playing in the squares, the artisans crafting their wares. It was a scene of everyday beauty, a reminder of the vibrant community that calls Chefchaouen home.

For my final dinner in Chefchaouen, I chose The Magic Lamp House of Aladin, a restaurant known for its enchanting atmosphere and delicious food. As I sat down, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for this incredible journey. I ordered a traditional Moroccan dish, savoring each bite as I reflected on the experiences of the past week. The restaurant's ambiance was magical, with soft lighting and intricate décor creating a warm and inviting space.

Tomorrow, I will be embarking on my journey back to Berlin. The trip involves a bus ride to Tangier and then a flight back to Germany. While I am eager to return to Hans and Sophie, I will carry the spirit of Chefchaouen with me. I’ll be sure to bring Sophie the hand-painted bowl I bought at CHAOUEN GIFTS. I know she will love it!

This solo trip to Chefchaouen has been an incredible experience, a journey of self-discovery and cultural immersion. I have learned so much about myself and the world around me. And who knows, maybe our paths will cross in another corner of the globe someday. Until then, thank you for joining me on this incredible journey. Farewell, Chefchaouen, until we meet again.

In the meantime, I’m already thinking about where my next adventure will take me! Perhaps I’ll convince Hans and Sophie to join me on a trip to explore more of Morocco. Or maybe we’ll venture further afield, to a new continent and a new culture. The possibilities are endless, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

For now, though, it’s time to say goodbye to Chefchaouen and begin the journey home. I’ll be sure to share more stories and photos from my trip in the coming days, so stay tuned for more updates.
