Family Adventure in the Blue City of Chefchaouen
Day 8: Farewell to Chefchaouen: A Day of Eagles, Gates, and Lasting Memories
Saying goodbye to Chefchaouen with breathtaking views from Hero Eagle and a final stroll through Bab Chaouen. A memorable family adventure.
A Fond Farewell to the Blue Pearl
As our family adventure in Chefchaouen draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible memories we've created in this blue-washed city. Today was all about soaking in the last moments, capturing the essence of Chefchaouen one final time before we bid adieu. It’s hard to believe our eight-day journey has come to an end, but I'm excited to share our last day's adventures with you all.
Our final day began, as most mornings here have, with a delightful breakfast at MIDO'S. I savored a traditional Moroccan pancake, Msemen, drizzled with honey, accompanied by a steaming glass of sweet mint tea. It was the perfect way to fuel up for our last day of exploration. Liesel, of course, enjoyed her usual pastry, already missing the sweet treats of Morocco. Hans and I chuckled, knowing we'd be back in Bamberg soon enough, where different, but equally delicious, treats awaited.

With our bellies full and spirits high, we set off to visit Hero Eagle. The walk there was invigorating, the cool November air a refreshing contrast to the warmth of our riad. As we ascended, the panoramic views of Chefchaouen began to unfold, revealing the city's mesmerizing tapestry of blue hues stretching across the Rif Mountains. It was a breathtaking sight, even more stunning than the photos I had seen online before our trip. The vista was truly magical, and I made sure to capture as many photos as possible, trying to freeze this moment in time.

It's not about the destination, but the journey and the memories made along the way.
Standing at Hero Eagle, I felt a sense of accomplishment and gratitude. We had navigated the winding streets of the medina, haggled for souvenirs in the bustling souks, and immersed ourselves in the local culture. This trip was more than just a vacation; it was an experience that brought our family closer together. Liesel was thrilled to spot the perfect angle to capture the view, and it was a perfect opportunity to remind her how important it is to look at things from different perspectives, something I try to incorporate into my translation work as well.
After spending a good hour at Hero Eagle, we made our way back down, our hearts full of the stunning views. Our next stop was Bab Chaouen, one of the city's iconic gates. As we approached, I couldn't help but admire the intricate details of the gate's design. It was a beautiful example of Moroccan architecture, a testament to the city's rich history and cultural heritage. We strolled through the gate, taking in the sights and sounds of the bustling streets beyond. The vibrant atmosphere was infectious, and we found ourselves caught up in the energy of the city.

Lunchtime arrived, and we decided to try Chez Foad, a local restaurant known for its traditional Moroccan dishes. We ordered a variety of tagines, each one bursting with flavor and aroma. Liesel, surprisingly, devoured a chicken tagine with olives and lemons, declaring it her favorite meal of the trip. Hans and I shared a lamb tagine, savoring the tender meat and fragrant spices. It was a delicious meal, a perfect representation of the culinary delights of Chefchaouen.

As the afternoon wore on, we decided to indulge in one last Moroccan tradition: a visit to a local bar. We ventured to Cafe Clock, a popular spot known for its relaxed atmosphere and delicious drinks. We sipped on refreshing mint teas, savoring the sweet and minty flavors. Liesel enjoyed a refreshing juice, while Hans and I reminisced about our favorite moments from the trip. The cafe was a perfect place to unwind and reflect on our adventures.

For our final dinner, we chose Restaurant Bab Ssour, a place recommended by several locals for its authentic Moroccan cuisine. The restaurant had a cozy ambiance, and the staff was incredibly welcoming. We ordered a feast of traditional dishes, including couscous, tagines, and grilled meats. Each dish was expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. It was the perfect way to end our culinary journey in Chefchaouen.

As we savored our last bites, I couldn't help but feel a tinge of sadness. Our time in Chefchaouen was coming to an end, and I knew we would miss this magical city. However, I was also filled with gratitude for the incredible memories we had created. This trip had been a dream come true, a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. I already knew I wanted to come back, perhaps in another season, to see how the city transforms.
Tomorrow, we will be making our way back to Tangier for our flight back to Germany. It's always a bittersweet feeling leaving a place you've grown to love. I know Liesel is already planning what she wants to tell her friends about the blue city, and Hans is looking forward to sharing some Moroccan mint tea with his colleagues at the brewery. As for me, I'm excited to start translating all of these experiences into blog posts, so others can be inspired to visit this magical place.
As I sit here, writing this final blog post from Chefchaouen, I can't help but smile. This trip has been an incredible experience, one that I will cherish forever. Chefchaouen, with its blue-washed buildings and vibrant culture, has captured my heart, and I know I will carry its memories with me always. Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I hope my stories have inspired you to explore the world and create your own unforgettable memories.
Until next time, auf wiedersehen from Chefchaouen!
