Exploring the Historical Charms of Fes with Friends
Day 8: A Day of Rejuvenation and Authentic Encounters in Fes
Explore Fes with Jiří as he unwinds at a spa, enjoys local cuisine, and discovers the city's unique charm with friends in Morocco.
Relaxation and Revelations in Fes
Today was a delightful mix of relaxation and authentic Moroccan experiences. After several days of exploring the bustling medina, a bit of pampering was exactly what I needed. Fes continues to surprise me with its blend of tradition and modernity, and today was no exception. From a soothing spa treatment to lively conversations at a local café, every moment felt like a genuine immersion into the Moroccan way of life.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at La Breva. The café is located on the 7th floor of a modern building, and the views overlooking the city were stunning. I opted for a traditional Moroccan breakfast, which included harcha (semolina pancakes) with oats – something I hadn't tried before. Lena enjoyed a selection of pastries and strong coffee. The atmosphere was calm, and the service was quick, making it a perfect start to our day.

After breakfast, I decided to indulge in some self-care at Vichy Thermalia Spa Hôtel Moulay Yacoub Fes. It was a bit of a drive from our riad, but well worth it. The hotel is directly connected to the Moulay Yacoub thermal center, known for its therapeutic waters. I booked a massage and spent some time in the hammam. The experience was incredibly relaxing, and I felt rejuvenated afterward. Lena, who joined me, was equally impressed with the cleanliness and the attentive staff. It was a welcome break from the intensity of the medina, and I felt ready to tackle the rest of the day with renewed energy.

Sometimes, the best way to understand a culture is to slow down and allow yourself to be immersed in its everyday rhythms.
For lunch, we ventured to Restaurant boujloud. The rooftop terrace offered fantastic views of the medina, and the ambiance was lively. I ordered the Lala Meftaha Chicken, which came highly recommended, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were rich and complex, and the portion was generous. Lena tried the vegetable tagine, which she found equally delicious. The service was friendly, and the prices were reasonable, making it a great spot for a casual meal.

After lunch, we decided to visit Tropicana Parc. It was a bit unexpected, but we were in the mood for something different. The park is a green oasis on the outskirts of Fes, featuring a central lake, various animals, and activities for children. While it's geared towards families, we enjoyed a leisurely stroll, taking in the peaceful atmosphere. It was a nice contrast to the bustling city, and we even spotted some interesting birds. I imagine it would be a hit if I had children.

Next on our list was Mules of the Medina. I was intrigued by the idea of learning more about these essential animals that navigate the narrow streets of Fes el Bali. While we didn't take a formal tour, we spent some time observing the mules and donkeys as they went about their work. It's incredible how these animals manage to carry heavy loads through the crowded alleyways. They are truly the unsung heroes of the medina, and it's fascinating to witness their role in the daily life of Fes. As I watched them, I was reminded of a quote I once read: “The best journeys answer questions that in the beginning, you didn't even think to ask.” This experience definitely sparked a new appreciation for the simple, yet vital, aspects of Fes.

In the late afternoon, we made our way to Bar Café Dalila. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a busy day. The café had a relaxed vibe, and we found a table on the terrace. I ordered a local beer, while Lena opted for mint tea. The tapas were tempting, so we shared a plate of assorted Moroccan snacks. The staff was friendly, and the service was efficient. It was a great place to people-watch and soak in the atmosphere of the Ville Nouvelle.

As the sun began to set, we headed to Eden at Palais Amani for dinner. The Palais Amani is a stunning riad, and the restaurant is known for its refined Moroccan cuisine. We opted for the four-course discovery menu, which offered a delicious array of traditional dishes with a modern twist. From the flavorful tagines to the delicate pastries, every dish was a work of art. The ambiance was elegant, and the service was impeccable. It was a truly memorable dining experience, and a perfect way to end our day.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, we plan to explore Volubilis, an ancient Roman city near Fes. I'm excited to delve into Morocco's Roman history and see the well-preserved ruins. We also intend to visit Bab Makina Plaza and perhaps take a guided tour with Fes Day Tours. For dinner, we've made a reservation at Les Mystères de Dar Tajine, which promises an authentic Moroccan culinary experience. I am also keen to visit Fes Antiques to look for unique souvenirs.
Today was a wonderful blend of relaxation and cultural immersion. Fes continues to captivate me with its unique charm and vibrant atmosphere. I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience this city with my friends, and I look forward to more adventures tomorrow.
It's moments like these that remind me why I love to travel. Discovering new cultures, tasting new flavors, and connecting with people from different backgrounds – it's an enriching experience that I wouldn't trade for anything.
