First stop: Wat Phra That Chae Haeng. The temple is located a few kilometers outside of Nan, and the golden chedi shimmered brilliantly under the morning sun. The temple dates back to the 14th century and is considered the most sacred in the Nan province. The architecture showcases a mix of Lanna and Thai Lü styles, which I found fascinating. Climbing the Naga-shaped staircase to reach the temple was an experience in itself. The view of Nan and the surrounding valley from the top of the hill was simply breathtaking. It was a moment of peaceful reflection, connecting with the rich history and culture of this region.

Travel is more than seeing sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.
Next, we visited Wat Ming Mueang, a starkly different but equally captivating temple. This temple is known for its unique white exterior and intricate decorations. The detailed architecture and interior murals depicting scenes from Nan's history were truly impressive. I learned that the temple houses the city pillar, considered the spiritual center of Nan. It's interesting to see how the modern Ubosot contrasts with the temple's historical roots. I was reminded of Mere and the kids back home, and made a silent prayer for their well-being and for continued blessings on our family. The temples here are so serene; it’s a perfect place for some quiet contemplation.

Lunch was at Nan Native, a restaurant recommended for its authentic Northern Thai cuisine. The restaurant was bustling with locals and tourists alike. I decided to try their signature dish, a flavorful curry with sticky rice. The spices were a delightful explosion of flavors, a true taste of Northern Thailand. My friends tried other local specialties, and we all shared our dishes, savoring the unique culinary heritage of the region. Nan Native is known for using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, which made the meal even more special.

For dinner, we ventured to Nan Steakhouse, craving some Western comfort food. This place is a bit of a hidden gem, located in a house at the end of a driveway. The owner, a friendly Norwegian, and his Thai wife made us feel right at home. I ordered a steak with mashed potatoes, while my friends opted for Swedish meatballs and bratwurst. The portions were generous, and the food was delicious. It was a comforting taste of home away from home, a perfect end to a day filled with cultural exploration.

The blend of ancient temples, flavorful cuisine, and warm hospitality has captured my heart. I am already looking forward to tomorrow's adventures, which include a visit to Wat Phra That Khao Noi and the Nan Riverside Art Gallery [].
