A Day of Discoveries in Kissos
Today was all about embracing the tranquility of Mount Pelion, venturing into the heart of its natural beauty and soaking in the stunning panoramic views. It's days like these that remind me why Hans and I chose this destination – a perfect blend of serene landscapes and authentic Greek charm.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at O Christos in Kissos. The aroma of freshly baked bread and strong Greek coffee filled the air, setting a cozy tone for the adventures that lay ahead. We sat outside, enjoying the crisp morning air and planning our route for the day. Fuelled up and ready to go, our first stop was Katarráktes Kissou.
The drive to the waterfalls was scenic, winding through lush forests with glimpses of the Aegean Sea in the distance. As we got closer, the sound of rushing water grew louder, creating a sense of anticipation. We parked the car and followed a rocky path that led us deeper into the woods. The trail was a bit challenging, but the reward was more than worth it. The waterfalls cascaded down mossy rocks, creating a magical scene. The air was fresh and cool, and the sunlight filtering through the trees added a touch of enchantment. I took out my camera, eager to capture the beauty of this hidden gem. Hans, ever the adventurer, climbed a bit higher to get a better view, while I simply sat on a rock, listening to the soothing sounds of nature. This place is truly a paradise for wildlife lovers.

Sometimes, the most beautiful places are those that require a little effort to reach.
After spending a blissful hour at Katarráktes Kissou, we decided to head towards the Pelion Cross of Jesus Observation Point. The drive up the mountain was steep and winding, but the views along the way were simply breathtaking. Olive groves and vineyards stretched across the landscape, dotted with traditional stone houses and quaint villages. We stopped several times to take photos, each viewpoint offering a unique perspective of Mount Pelion.
As we neared the observation point, the air grew noticeably cooler. We parked the car and walked the final stretch to the cross. Standing there, gazing out at the panoramic views, I felt a sense of awe and gratitude. The entire Pelion peninsula unfolded before us, with the Aegean Sea sparkling in the distance. It was a moment of pure serenity, a chance to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of our surroundings. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and let the cool mountain air fill my lungs. Hans and I stood there in silence for a few minutes, simply enjoying the view and each other's company.

For lunch, we drove to Meintani (Niki's Taverna) in Zagora. This taverna is known for its traditional Greek cuisine and stunning views of the Aegean Sea. We were lucky enough to get a table on the balcony, where we could admire the scenery while enjoying our meal. Mrs. Niki focuses on quality and the use of free - range products. We ordered a selection of local specialties, including fresh fish, kleftiko, and a delicious Greek salad. The food was incredibly flavorful, and the portions were generous. Niki's Tavern subverts many certainties. As we savored each bite, we chatted with the friendly staff, learning about the history of the taverna and the local area. It was a truly authentic Greek experience, one that we will cherish for years to come.

After lunch, we decided to explore the charming village of Kissos. We stumbled upon the Mediterraneo Art Store, a delightful shop filled with unique souvenirs and local crafts. I couldn't resist buying a few small items to bring back home as gifts for our friends and family. The shop owner was incredibly friendly and shared stories about the local artists and their creations. It's these personal connections that make traveling so rewarding, a chance to learn about different cultures and support local communities.

As the afternoon drew to a close, we made our way to Nagual Beach Bar for a relaxing drink by the sea. Although Nagual Beach Bar is actually in Corfu, we found a similarly named bar in the area. We ordered a couple of cocktails and settled into comfortable sunbeds, watching the waves crash against the shore. The atmosphere was laid-back and inviting, the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring. The bar had a vibrant atmosphere and a diverse menu. As the sun began to set, the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors, casting a warm glow over the landscape. It was a magical moment, one that I will never forget.

For dinner, we chose the Salkimi restaurant, known for its lovely views and Greek and Mediterranean dishes. The staff was knowledgeable, and the service was excellent. We shared a bottle of local wine and savored the flavors of the region. The atmosphere was lovely.
