A Fond Farewell

As my journey through the breathtaking Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences and natural wonders I've encountered. Today was a day of savoring the last moments, both in terms of culinary delights and the simple pleasures of this unique landscape. It's hard to believe my two weeks here have flown by so quickly, but every moment has been etched into my memory.

My final day began with a delightful breakfast at Phong Nha Vegan Restaurant. Overlooking the river, it was the perfect spot to enjoy a peaceful meal and reflect on my adventures. The staff were incredibly kind, and I couldn't resist ordering their iced coconut coffee one last time. Sipping it slowly, I watched the community cows and their calves stroll past, a charming scene that has become a familiar part of my daily routine here.

The end of a journey is just the beginning of a memory.

After breakfast, I decided to indulge in a bit of souvenir shopping at Harry's Coconuts. It felt right to pick up a few mementos to remind me of this special place. The shop was filled with unique crafts and local products, each telling a story of Vietnamese artistry. I carefully chose a few small items, hoping they would capture the essence of Phong Nha's beauty and tranquility.

For lunch, I ventured to The Rice House, a restaurant known for its delicious vegetarian options. I opted for the tomato tofu, a flavorful dish that perfectly blended local ingredients with Vietnamese culinary traditions. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was cozy, making it a truly enjoyable dining experience. It was a satisfying meal that fueled me for the afternoon's adventures.

In the late afternoon, I found myself drawn back to the heart of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. I spent hours simply wandering, camera in hand, trying to capture the magic of this place. The park's beauty is truly awe-inspiring, with its towering limestone karsts, lush greenery, and hidden caves. I paused by the river, watching the long tail boats glide by, each carrying stories of adventure and discovery.

As the sun began to set, I made my way to Victory Road Villas, a charming spot I'd heard about, for a final drink. The bar had a relaxed atmosphere, and I ordered a local beer, raising a toast to the incredible journey I'd had. It was the perfect way to bid farewell to Phong Nha, surrounded by the beauty of the park and the warmth of the Vietnamese people.

Dinner tonight was at ARTIST'S ZONE, a restaurant that had been recommended for its delicious Vietnamese cuisine and inviting ambiance. I decided on a plate of spring rolls and a chicken salad. The staff were incredibly friendly and the food was delicious, providing a perfect ending to my culinary exploration of Phong Nha.

This solo trip to Phong Nha-Ke Bang was exactly what I needed. As many of you know, I've been trying to incorporate more sustainable practices into my life, both at home in Berlin and during my travels. This park, with its focus on eco-tourism and preservation, felt like a natural fit. It reminded me of the importance of connecting with nature and supporting local communities. And, of course, Hans will be eager to hear all about it when I get home!

The weather in Phong Nha this time of year has been pleasantly warm, with average highs around 79°F (26°C). While there has been occasional rainfall, it hasn't dampened my spirits or limited my exploration of the park. I was prepared with lightweight, breathable clothing and my trusty hiking boots, ready for any adventure that came my way.

Tomorrow, I will be heading back to Hanoi for my flight back to Berlin. While I'm excited to return home, I know a part of me will always remain in this magical place. Phong Nha-Ke Bang has captured my heart with its natural beauty, warm hospitality, and commitment to sustainable tourism. It's a destination that I will cherish forever, and I hope to return someday soon.

In reflecting on my time here, I'm reminded of the simple joys of travel: savoring new flavors, discovering hidden gems, and connecting with nature. Phong Nha-Ke Bang has given me all of this and more, and I'm grateful for the memories I've made. As I prepare to leave, I carry with me a renewed sense of appreciation for the beauty of our planet and the importance of preserving it for future generations. And I am happy to report that Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park wins at World Travel Awards 2025!

Until next time, Vietnam!
