Exploring the Mystique of Namibia's Skeleton Coast
Day 10: Chasing Ancient Echoes: A Farewell to Namibia's Wonders
Uncover the mysteries of the Brandberg White Lady, savor Namibian flavors, and bid adieu to the Skeleton Coast's breathtaking beauty.
Whispers of the Past, Tastes of the Present
As our Namibian adventure draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we've undertaken. From the haunting shipwrecks of the Skeleton Coast to the vibrant city of Windhoek, each day has been a tapestry of unique experiences. Today, our final day, promised a blend of ancient history and modern indulgence, a fitting end to our exploration of this captivating country.
The day began with a hearty breakfast at Col'Cacchio The Grove. I opted for a classic wood-fired pizza, a taste of Italy infused with Namibian charm. It was the perfect fuel for our morning adventure: a visit to the famed Brandberg White Lady Painting.

The Brandberg Mountain, also known as the 'Burnt Mountain' in Damara, holds immense spiritual significance for the local Damara San people. Reaching the White Lady painting required a bit of a hike, but the effort was well worth it. As we approached the site, the ancient rock art came into view, a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the region. The White Lady herself, a figure shrouded in mystery, stood out against the rock face, her origins and meaning debated by archaeologists for decades. Some believe the painting, estimated to be between 2,000 and 4,000 years old, depicts a ritual dance or a spiritual being. Others suggest it may represent a hunter-gatherer ritual. Regardless of its true meaning, the White Lady is a captivating piece of art, a window into the lives and beliefs of the ancient people who once called this land home.

After immersing ourselves in the ancient echoes of Brandberg, our appetites called us back to Windhoek for lunch. We chose The Stellenbosch Tasting Room, a restaurant that promised a fusion of South African wines and Namibian flavors.

The Stellenbosch Tasting Room, located in Klein Windhoek, offers a captivating oasis where the allure of South African wines meets the vibrant spirit of Namibia's capital city. I decided on a juicy wood-fired steak, perfectly grilled and accompanied by a glass of South African red wine. The restaurant had a relaxing atmosphere, and I enjoyed the opportunity to savor the flavors of Namibia one last time.
As evening approached, we made our way to Swakopmund for our farewell dinner. Jetty 1905 Restaurant, situated on the historic Swakopmund Jetty, was our chosen venue.

The restaurant offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Swakopmund coastline. The jetty itself has quite the history, originally built in 1905 and renovated in 2006 and again in 2010. The menu featured a variety of seafood dishes, as well as sushi and steaks. I opted for the grilled fish, savoring the fresh flavors of the ocean as the sun dipped below the horizon. It was the perfect setting to reflect on our Namibian adventure, sharing stories and laughter with my friends.
To cap off our final night, we headed to Atlas hookah lounge & restaurant in Windhoek.

As I sit here, penning these thoughts, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the experiences we've shared over the past ten days. Namibia, with its stark landscapes, rich history, and warm people, has left an indelible mark on my soul. I am grateful that my friends were able to share this experience with me. From Slovenia to Switzerland, we've all come so far to experience this amazing place together. This trip has reminded me of the importance of disconnecting from the digital world and connecting with nature, with history, and with each other. I'll be sure to bring Ana and Luka back here someday. While this chapter of our journey may be closing, the memories and lessons learned will stay with me forever. Namibia, you have been an unforgettable adventure.
Tomorrow, we begin our journey back home, carrying with us the spirit of the Skeleton Coast and the whispers of the Brandberg Mountain. Until next time, travel safely and keep exploring!
