A Day of Discoveries in the Blue Pearl
Today was a day of gentle exploration and quiet contemplation in Chefchaouen. It's amazing how a place can slowly seep into your soul, revealing its charm in subtle ways. Lena and I set out this morning with no grand agenda, just a desire to wander and see where the blue streets would lead us.
Our morning started, as many do here, with breakfast at Cafe Clock. I opted for the Moroccan chicken, while Lena enjoyed a classic Moroccan breakfast. The atmosphere was lively, with fellow travelers and locals alike starting their day. It's becoming our favorite spot; the staff are incredibly welcoming, and the food is consistently great. The rooftop terrace offered a stunning view of the town as the sun began to climb higher in the sky. After breakfast, our first stop was Plaza Mohammed V.

Plaza Mohammed V turned out to be a peaceful haven amidst the bustling town. Built during the Spanish colonization, the Plaza is a circular square with a beautiful fountain and vibrant flower gardens. We strolled through the orange trees, enjoying the tranquility and taking photos by the frog pond. The plaza was a refreshing escape, offering manicured lawns and shaded seating. It was lovely to see locals and tourists alike enjoying the serene environment.
Sometimes, the most profound experiences are found in the simplest moments, like a quiet walk through a sun-drenched plaza.
Next, we decided to walk towards Bab el Mahrouk. This isn't just a parking lot, but a strategic entry point to the city. As we approached, the vibrant atmosphere of Chefchaouen enveloped us. Bab el Mahrouk, conveniently located near the city's main attractions, is more than just a place to park; it's a gateway to adventure. We parked the car and began our walking tour through the charming alleyways, ready to explore artisanal shops and soak in the stunning viewpoints. The Rif Mountains provided a breathtaking backdrop, enhancing the picturesque scene.

We spent the afternoon getting lost in the maze-like streets, discovering hidden gems at every turn. The blue-washed buildings created a surreal atmosphere, and the terracotta-tiled houses were a sight to behold. We stumbled upon quaint courtyards and souks filled with shops and street food vendors. It was tempting to buy everything, but I managed to resist, knowing our suitcases are already bursting at the seams. Lena, however, couldn't resist a beautiful hand-painted bowl, a perfect souvenir to remind us of this magical place. The experience was immersive, allowing us to appreciate the town's unique blend of Berber and Arabic influences.
For lunch, we opted for MIDO'S. It was a delightful choice, offering a mix of international and American cuisine. Though the restaurant hadn't uploaded their menu yet, we were still able to sample some of their signature dishes. The professional staff and affordable prices made it an excellent experience. After lunch, we continued our exploration, making our way towards the highly recommended spot: Sunset at Sunset.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Sunset at Sunset for a well-deserved drink. The name didn't lie; the sunset views were absolutely magical. The bar offered a relaxing ambiance, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. We sat on the terrace, sipping refreshing cocktails and watching the sky transform into a canvas of vibrant colors. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with gentle discoveries and quiet moments of appreciation.

Restaurant Morisco was our choice for dinner. Situated on Place Outa el Hammam, it offered a fantastic atmosphere and a diverse menu of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. We savored a delicious tagine and enjoyed the lively ambiance of the square. The restaurant’s high terrace provided stunning views. The tagine was cooked to perfection, and the Moroccan tea was the perfect ending to our meal.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, we plan to visit the Kasbah and Bab El Hammar. I'm particularly excited to explore the Kasbah, as it promises a deeper dive into the history of Chefchaouen. Lena is already eyeing the shops selling original Moroccan clothes, so I foresee some more souvenir hunting in our future. For breakfast, we'll try Café Sindibad, followed by lunch at Restaurant Ali Baba and dinner at Restaurant Jbaria. It's hard to believe we only have a few days left in this enchanting town. Each day brings new discoveries and unforgettable moments. I’m trying to soak it all in, knowing that these memories will stay with us long after we leave the Blue Pearl.
Tonight, as I sit down to write, I realize how much this town has grown on me. It's not just the blue walls; it's the slow pace, the friendly faces, and the sense of peace that permeates the air. Chefchaouen is more than just a destination; it's an experience that nourishes the soul.
