A Winter's Welcome to Gros Morne
After a long journey from Berlin, with a stopover in Deer Lake, Newfoundland, I've finally arrived in Gros Morne National Park with my friends. The crisp winter air and the promise of breathtaking landscapes have me buzzing with excitement. It's a new adventure, a chance to immerse ourselves in the raw beauty of Canada, and I can't wait to share every moment with you.
The adventure began as we drove towards Gros Morne. The landscape was already captivating, even from the car. Snow-covered evergreens lined the roads, creating a serene, winter wonderland. The temperature was definitely a change from Berlin, hovering around -4°C to -10°C. I was glad I packed my warmest датска strik! It's funny, I almost forgot my insect repellent and portable stove, but thankfully, my friends reminded me. I would have been kicking myself later [cite: null].
Our first official stop was the Gros Morne Entrance Kiosk in Wiltondale. Even though it was just a quick check-in, the park staff were incredibly welcoming and gave us some great tips for navigating the park in winter. They emphasized the importance of being prepared for unpredictable weather, something I've learned to always keep in mind from my travels.

We then ventured on to Woody Point, a charming town nestled on the edge of Bonne Bay. The colorful houses and the historic vibe of the town were immediately appealing. We took a stroll along the Woody Point Community Trail, which offered stunning vistas of the surrounding hills and the iconic Woody Point Lighthouse. The views were absolutely worth braving the cold. I could already tell that this trip would be filled with picture-perfect moments.

Sometimes, the most beautiful discoveries are the ones you stumble upon unexpectedly.
Lunch was at The Old Loft Restaurant in Woody Point, a place recommended by several locals. The restaurant itself is in a beautifully restored building, adding to the town's overall charm. I opted for the pan-fried cod, a Newfoundland specialty, and it was absolutely divine. My friends tried the seafood lasagna and the mussels, and they were equally impressed. The cozy atmosphere and the friendly service made it a perfect midday break.

After lunch, we explored Gros Morne Crafts & Oceanside Cottage. I love finding unique, locally made souvenirs, and this place did not disappoint. The shop was filled with beautiful handmade crafts, from intricate woodwork to cozy knitted items. I picked up a small wooden carving of a puffin, a perfect reminder of my time in Newfoundland. It's always a joy to support local artisans and bring a piece of the destination back home with me.

Our final stop for the day was the Green Point Geological Site. This place is truly remarkable. As we walked along the shoreline, we were surrounded by seaside cliffs that tell a story millions of years old. The layers of rock, formed at the bottom of an ancient ocean, were now standing tall, revealing the Earth's history. It was fascinating to learn that geologists discovered fossils here that define the boundary between the Cambrian and Ordovician periods. Standing there, surrounded by such ancient history, gave me a profound sense of perspective.

For dinner, we drove to Norris Point and dined at The Black Spruce Restaurant. I had heard great things about their Newfoundland cuisine, and it lived up to the hype. The restaurant focuses on using local ingredients, and you could really taste the freshness in every bite. I tried the moose tenderloin, a dish I wouldn't normally have, and it was cooked to perfection. The cozy ambiance and the friendly staff made it a memorable dining experience.

As the day came to a close, we set up our tent at the Green Point Campground. Camping in January might sound a bit extreme, but we were well-prepared with warm sleeping bags and a reliable tent. The night sky was incredible, filled with stars that seemed so much brighter away from city lights. It was a perfect end to a day filled with exploration and discovery.
Tomorrow, we plan to hike the Green Gardens Trail, visit the Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse, and explore the Discovery Centre [cite: null]. I'm particularly excited about the lighthouse; there's something so captivating about these structures standing against the rugged coastline.
Today was a fantastic introduction to Gros Morne National Park. From the stunning landscapes to the charming towns and the delicious food, I'm already falling in love with this place. The blend of natural beauty and rich history is truly captivating. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
