Tranquility Found in Hoi An's Embrace
Today was a day of simple pleasures and cultural immersion, a perfect blend that reminded me why I love traveling. It's about finding those quiet moments amidst the bustling world, connecting with history, and savoring the beauty of everyday life. Hoi An, with its serene landscapes and historical charm, offered just that.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Mr. Sơn Restaurant [cite: null]. Hans and I enjoyed some local delicacies, fueling up for our cycling adventure. The restaurant had a cozy ambiance, and the food was a great start to our explorations. It's always a pleasure to discover these local spots that offer a taste of authentic Vietnamese cuisine. I made a mental note to try and recreate one of the dishes back in Berlin – perhaps a new addition to my cooking repertoire!
After breakfast, we hopped on our bikes, ready to explore the Hoi An rice fields [cite: null]. The weather was warm, with a slight breeze – perfect for cycling. As we pedaled away from the town center, the scenery transformed into lush greenery. The rice fields stretched out before us, a vibrant tapestry of green and gold under the November sun.

Cycling through the rice fields was incredibly peaceful. We passed farmers tending to their crops, their conical hats bobbing in the distance. The air was fresh and clean, a welcome change from the city. I felt a sense of calm wash over me as we rode along the narrow paths, surrounded by nature's beauty. It was a scene straight out of a postcard, and I was so grateful to be experiencing it firsthand. Hans, ever the photographer, was in his element, capturing the stunning landscapes and the simple beauty of rural life.
Sometimes, the most profound travel experiences come from the simplest moments.
As the sun began to dip lower, we found a perfect spot to watch the sunset over the rice fields. The sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors – oranges, pinks, and purples blending seamlessly together. It was a magical moment, one that I'll cherish for a long time. We sat in comfortable silence, simply taking in the breathtaking view. It was a reminder of the beauty that exists in the world, and how important it is to slow down and appreciate it.
Next on our itinerary was the Old House of Tan Ky. Stepping inside was like traveling back in time. This historic house, built in the 19th century, has been preserved through generations. Its architecture reflected a blend of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese influences, a testament to Hoi An's rich cultural heritage.

Our guide shared fascinating stories about the house and its former residents. I learned about the intricate carvings, the symbolic meanings behind the designs, and the daily lives of the families who once called this place home. It was a captivating glimpse into the past, and I felt a deep connection to the history of Hoi An. The house was filled with antiques and artifacts, each with its own story to tell. It was like wandering through a living museum, and I was completely enthralled.
After immersing ourselves in history, we decided to head to Cua Dai Beach. The beach was only a short ride away, and we were eager to feel the sand between our toes. As we arrived, the sun was beginning to set, casting a golden glow over the coastline. The beach was relatively quiet, with only a few people strolling along the shore. We found a secluded spot and simply relaxed, listening to the gentle lapping of the waves.

The sea breeze was refreshing, and the sound of the waves was incredibly soothing. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, feeling all my worries melt away. It was a moment of pure bliss, a perfect way to end a day of exploration. We walked along the shore, collecting seashells and watching the sky transform into a kaleidoscope of colors. Cua Dai Beach, with its serene atmosphere and natural beauty, was a true gem.
Before heading back to our villa, we made a stop at Nam Trân Art Craft Village. This charming shop was filled with unique ceramics and vintage items, each piece a work of art. I was immediately drawn to the intricate designs and the vibrant colors. The owners were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, sharing stories about the history and craftsmanship behind each item.

I ended up purchasing a few small bowls and plates, perfect souvenirs to remind me of our time in Hoi An. It's always special to bring home something that reflects the local culture and artistry. Supporting local artisans is important to me, and I was happy to find such beautiful and unique pieces at Nam Trân Art Craft Village. I even found a small lotus-shaped dish, a subtle nod to my heritage, which I thought was a lovely coincidence.
For dinner, we decided to try Circle Restaurant | Hoi An Burgers and Tacos by Circle Cafe [cite: null]. After a day of Vietnamese cuisine, we were in the mood for something different. The restaurant had a lively atmosphere, and the menu offered a variety of options, from burgers to tacos to local dishes.

Hans ordered a burger, while I opted for the tacos. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. It was a fun and casual dining experience, a perfect way to unwind after a busy day. The staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. It's always nice to find a place that offers a taste of home while still embracing the local culture.
As the day drew to a close, I reflected on all that we had experienced. From cycling through the rice fields to exploring ancient houses and relaxing on the beach, it was a day filled with simple pleasures and cultural immersion. Hoi An had truly captured my heart, and I was grateful for the opportunity to experience its beauty and charm. I am also very grateful for having Hans by my side, and that he enjoys discovering new places and cultures as much as I do.
Tomorrow, we plan to delve deeper into Hoi An's history with visits to the Hoi An Museum, TRẦN CÔNG HOÀNG, and The Old House of Phung Hung. We'll also explore the local nightlife with a stop at Market Bar - Market Terrace [cite: null]. I'm excited to see what new adventures await us!
For now, I'm off to bed, dreaming of rice paddies, ancient houses and the gentle lapping of waves. Good night from Hoi An!
