Today was a day of exploring Chefchaouen's stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. I woke up excited to experience more of this blue city, a stark contrast to the grey skies of Berlin, and I couldn't wait to share it all with you.

Our day began with breakfast at Sofia, a charming spot that Hans had picked out for its traditional Moroccan fare. The aroma of freshly baked bread and mint tea filled the air as we settled in, ready to fuel up for a day of exploration. I opted for a classic tagine, savoring the rich flavors and tender meat, while Hans enjoyed a hearty omelet. It was the perfect start to a day filled with discovery.

After breakfast, we made our way to Plaza Uta el-Hammam, the heart of Chefchaouen. The plaza was already bustling with activity, locals and tourists alike soaking in the morning sun. The vibrant atmosphere was infectious, and I couldn't help but feel drawn in by the energy of the place. The blue-washed buildings surrounding the plaza created a surreal and magical ambiance, making it feel like stepping into a dream.

We took our time wandering through the plaza, admiring the architecture and soaking in the sights and sounds. We also visited the Grande Mosque, a beautiful example of Islamic architecture, its intricate details a testament to the skill of the craftsmen who built it.

Lunch was at Restaurant Al Wiam, a cozy spot recommended by a local we met in the plaza. The restaurant was tucked away in a quiet corner, offering a welcome respite from the bustling crowds. We decided to try a selection of Moroccan dishes, including couscous, pastilla, and a variety of tagines. Each dish was a burst of flavor, a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Morocco. The service was warm and welcoming, making us feel like we were dining in a family home.

After lunch, we set off on our biggest adventure of the day: a hike to Grande Cascade D'akchour. The drive to Akchour was an experience in itself, the winding roads offering breathtaking views of the Rif Mountains. As we drove, I thought about my life back in Berlin, my work as a geriatric nurse, and how different it was from this moment. I felt a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to experience such beauty and adventure.

It was a humbling reminder of the different ways people live and thrive in this world.

As we neared the waterfall, the sound of rushing water grew louder, building anticipation. Finally, we rounded a bend and there it was: Grande Cascade D'akchour, a majestic waterfall cascading down a towering cliff face. The sight was simply breathtaking. The water was icy cold, but I couldn't resist taking a dip, the refreshing chill invigorating my body and soul. Hans, ever the cautious one, opted to stay on the sidelines, taking photos and cheering me on.

After our refreshing dip, we relaxed by the waterfall, soaking in the beauty of our surroundings. I felt a sense of peace and tranquility wash over me, a feeling of being completely present in the moment. It was a perfect reminder of why I love to travel, to experience these moments of awe and wonder that stay with you long after you've returned home.

As the sun began to set, we made our way back to Chefchaouen, tired but exhilarated. For dinner, we chose Restaurant Morisco, located right on Plaza Uta el-Hammam. We sat on the terrace, enjoying the lively atmosphere of the square as we savored our meal. I opted for a traditional Moroccan soup, while Hans enjoyed a grilled fish dish. The food was delicious, but the real highlight was the ambiance, the energy of the plaza creating a magical and unforgettable experience.

To cap off the day, we decided to visit Bar Oum Rabie for a nightcap. The bar was cozy and inviting, with a laid-back atmosphere. We ordered a couple of drinks and chatted with the friendly locals, sharing stories and laughter. It was a perfect end to a perfect day, a reminder of the simple joys of life: good company, good food, and good conversation.

Tomorrow, we are planning to explore Parc National de Talassemtane and the Waterfalls Akchour, and I am already excited about what new adventures await. Before that, we will have breakfast at Hôtel restaurant La fuente, followed by lunch at Restaurant Hajji and dinner at Mandala. I am also hoping to get some shopping done at Chefchaouen crafts.
