A Day of Desert Indulgence

As our Moroccan adventure nears its end, today was all about savoring the tranquil beauty and unique experiences Merzouga had to offer. It’s amazing how quickly this landscape has seeped into my soul, a stark contrast to the bustling streets of Warsaw, yet equally captivating. With Jan by my side, I knew today would be another chapter of cherished memories.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Snack Mustapha. The warm hospitality and the delicious traditional Moroccan dishes were the perfect start. I opted for a classic tagine, while Jan chose the savory couscous. The flavors were rich and satisfying, a true taste of Morocco. The colorful decor and friendly staff made us feel right at home.

After breakfast, we decided to embrace the spirit of sustainable tourism with a visit to Tiziri Camp - Luxury ECO Desert Camp Merzouga. The camp is a testament to responsible travel, blending luxury with a deep commitment to environmental protection. The attention to detail was remarkable, from the handcrafted furnishings to the use of natural fabrics.

The camp's location, nestled in the Erg Chebbi dunes, offered a sense of serene seclusion. We spent the morning relaxing in our tent, which was surprisingly spacious and comfortable, complete with a private bath. I was particularly impressed by their water conservation efforts and recycling practices. It’s heartening to see such dedication to preserving this fragile desert ecosystem.

For lunch, we ventured to Cafe Restaurant Merzouga, a charming spot known for its local cuisine. Jan and I shared a flavorful Moroccan salad and a hearty portion of grilled meats. The restaurant had a lovely ambiance, with both indoor and outdoor seating options. While enjoying our meal, we planned our next adventure: a visit to Merzouga Lake.

Merzouga Lake, also known as Dayet Srji, is a seasonal lake that attracts a variety of bird species. Although September isn't the peak season for migratory birds, we were still fortunate enough to spot a few. I managed to catch sight of a Ruddy Shelduck, its chestnut plumage a striking contrast against the water. Jan, with his keen interest in ornithology, was thrilled to identify a Desert Warbler flitting among the lakeside bushes. It was a reminder of the unexpected beauty that can be found even in the most arid landscapes.

In the late afternoon, we indulged in some retail therapy at Dépôt Nomade, a local shop known for its beautiful carpets, jewelry, and other handicrafts. As someone who appreciates the artistry and history woven into textiles, I was immediately drawn to the intricate Berber designs. I found a stunning rug with deep blues and earthy reds, perfect for our living room in Warsaw. Jan, ever the historian, was fascinated by the stories behind each piece, learning about the traditional techniques and the symbolism embedded in the patterns.

For dinner, we chose Restaurant & Cafe Zaid Merzouga, a cozy spot recommended for its authentic Moroccan cuisine. I savored a flavorful omelette, while Jan opted for the traditional Berber tagine. The cafe had a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. As we dined, we reflected on the day's adventures, feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience the magic of Merzouga.

As the day drew to a close, we found ourselves once again under the vast desert sky. The stars seemed brighter here than anywhere else I’ve ever been, a celestial tapestry woven with countless glittering lights. We sat in comfortable silence, the only sound the gentle whisper of the wind across the dunes. It was a moment of pure serenity, a perfect ending to a day of desert indulgence.

Tomorrow marks the final day of our journey, and we plan to soak up every last bit of Merzouga's charm. We'll be visiting the Merzouga top itinerary and Berber Camp Merzouga, eager to delve deeper into the local culture and traditions. A final breakfast at Cafe Restaurant Zahra, lunch at Snack chez Toufik, and dinner at Welcome to the desert will round out our culinary explorations. And perhaps, a relaxing evening at Restaurant Berbere Palace Hotel Merzouga to celebrate the end of our travels.

As I prepare for our last day, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the experiences we've shared in this mesmerizing corner of the world. The Merzouga Region has captured my heart, and I know that a part of me will forever remain among these golden dunes.

And as I drift off to sleep here in our luxury tent, I already know that I’ll be dreaming of returning again soon.

Trip End

Our final day in Merzouga was a bittersweet symphony of experiences, a culmination of all we had come to love about this magical place. As the sun began to rise, casting a warm golden glow over the dunes, Jan and I savored our last Moroccan breakfast at Cafe Restaurant Zahra. The traditional mint tea, paired with freshly baked bread and local honey, was the perfect way to start the day.

Our first stop was the Merzouga top itinerary, a curated list of must-see spots in the area. We explored the ancient ksar, marveling at the intricate architecture and the stories etched into its walls. We wandered through the local market, immersing ourselves in the vibrant colors and aromas of the spices, dates, and handicrafts. It was a sensory feast, a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of the Berber people.

Next, we ventured to Berber Camp Merzouga, eager to learn more about the traditional nomadic way of life. We were greeted with warm hospitality and invited into a traditional Berber tent, where we shared stories and laughter over a steaming pot of mint tea. The experience was both humbling and enriching, a reminder of the importance of human connection and cultural exchange.

For lunch, we stopped at Snack chez Toufik, a local favorite known for its delicious and affordable fare. I savored a flavorful tagine, while Jan opted for a grilled kebab. The simple yet satisfying meal was a testament to the beauty of Moroccan cuisine, where fresh ingredients and time-honored recipes come together to create culinary magic.

As the afternoon sun began to cast long shadows across the dunes, we made our way to Welcome to the desert for our farewell dinner. The restaurant's name was fitting, as we felt a sense of belonging and connection to this extraordinary landscape. We indulged in a feast of traditional Moroccan dishes, savoring each bite as we reminisced about our adventures.

Our final evening in Merzouga was spent at Restaurant Berbere Palace Hotel Merzouga, a luxurious establishment that offered a perfect blend of comfort and charm. We sat on the terrace, sipping Moroccan wine and gazing out at the starlit sky. The silence was broken only by the gentle strumming of a Berber musician, his melodies weaving a tapestry of memories that would forever be etched in our hearts.

As we prepare to leave this enchanting place, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude for the experiences we've shared. The Merzouga Region has touched our souls, leaving us with a renewed appreciation for the beauty of nature, the richness of culture, and the power of human connection.

I leave Merzouga with a promise to return, to once again wander among these golden dunes, to bask in the warmth of the Berber sun, and to lose myself in the magic of the Sahara. Until then, I will carry the spirit of Merzouga with me, a reminder that adventure awaits around every corner, and that the most extraordinary experiences are often found in the most unexpected places.
