Today was a journey through time and nature, a beautiful blend of history etched in stone and life flourishing in the desert. It's amazing how much a single day can reveal about a place, and Taroudant continues to surprise and enchant me.

We started our day with a hearty breakfast at Snack Paradise. I opted for a traditional Moroccan pancake with honey, while some of my friends went for the omelettes. Fuelled up, we set off to explore Dar El Baroud.

Stepping Back in Time at Dar El Baroud

Dar El Baroud, a historical landmark, offered a serene escape from the bustling city. As we approached, the intricate designs and peaceful atmosphere immediately captivated us. The architecture showcased traditional Moroccan craftsmanship, with beautiful tile work and carvings. I could almost hear the echoes of the past as we strolled through the grounds, imagining the lives of those who once inhabited this space. The gardens surrounding Dar El Baroud provided a tranquil backdrop, perfect for capturing the moment with my camera. It was a moment of reflection, appreciating the rich history and cultural pride of the region. Maximilian, ever the history buff, was in his element, pointing out architectural details I might have missed.

After soaking in the history of Dar El Baroud, we decided to indulge in some local shopping. Chez l'Antiquaire Abdellatif Labchara was our next stop.

This antique shop was a treasure trove of Berber artifacts. Abdellatif, the owner, greeted us warmly and shared stories behind some of the unique items. I found myself drawn to a beautiful, intricately designed Berber necklace, a piece of art that seemed to hold centuries of history within its silver strands. My friends were equally fascinated, browsing through old carpets, pottery, and other curiosities. It was a delightful experience, connecting with the local culture through its art and history.

Journey to Oasis Tiout

Next on our itinerary was a visit to the famed Oasis Tiout, about 30km away from Taroudant. The drive itself was an adventure, passing through the arid landscape that suddenly gives way to lush greenery. As we approached the oasis, the sight of the sprawling palm groves was simply breathtaking.

Lunch with a View at Restaurant Kasbah Tiout

Our lunch was at Restaurant Kasbah Tiout, nestled within the ancient Kasbah overlooking the oasis. The views were stunning – a panoramic vista of the lush palm groves and the distant High Atlas Mountains. We savored traditional Moroccan dishes, including a flavorful chicken tagine and couscous. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was simply magical. Elena would have loved running around in the open space, I made a mental note to bring her here someday. The kasbah itself had an interesting history, having once served as a filming location for the movie 'Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves'. The blend of history, culture, and natural beauty made it a truly unforgettable experience.

Exploring the Oasis Tiout

After lunch, we took a walk through the oasis. The air was filled with the sweet scent of dates, and the sounds of birds chirping added to the serene atmosphere. We saw locals tending to their gardens and children playing in the streams. It was a glimpse into a simpler way of life, a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Some of us opted for a donkey ride, a fun and authentic way to experience the oasis. The gentle sway of the donkey, the warm sun on my skin, and the stunning scenery all around created a perfect moment of tranquility.

Dinner at Complex Noblesse

As the day drew to a close, we headed back to Taroudant for dinner at Complex Noblesse. This restaurant is known for its pizzas and other local dishes. We sat outside, enjoying the cool evening air and the lively atmosphere. I decided to try their signature pizza, topped with fresh local ingredients, and it was absolutely delicious. The staff was friendly and the service was excellent. It was a perfect way to end a day filled with exploration and discovery.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit Bab Ouled Bounouna and Riad Asma, and perhaps unwind at Dar Zitoune in the evening. I am looking forward to more adventures and cultural immersion in this enchanting town. I am so glad I decided to visit Taroudant with my friends; it has been an enriching experience. The blend of history, culture, and natural beauty is truly captivating. It's a place that stays with you long after you leave, a memory etched in your heart like the intricate designs on a Berber necklace. Perhaps I will bring Maximilian and Elena back here next year!

I'm also realizing I forgot my sunglasses at home, which isn't great in this sunny climate. I'll need to find a pair tomorrow when we're out and about. And a power adapter would be useful too, but luckily one of my friends had an extra.

I am really enjoying this adventure with my friends, and I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
