Art, History, and Flavors of Taroudant
Today was a fantastic immersion into the heart of Taroudant. From exploring art to wandering through ancient gates and savoring local cuisine, it was a day filled with cultural enrichment and delightful surprises. The Moroccan sun shone brightly, enhancing the beauty of every corner we explored.
Our day began with a hearty Moroccan breakfast at Snack Big. I opted for a traditional tagine, the aroma of spices filling the air. It was the perfect way to start a day of exploration, fueling us for the adventures ahead. Max and the others enjoyed some local pastries and strong coffee, all agreeing that it was a great way to start the day. I made sure to take a photo of my tagine; the presentation alone was a work of art. The warm hospitality made us feel right at home, a common theme throughout our trip so far.

After breakfast, we set off to the Musée Plein Air Claudio Bravo. The museum is set in a beautiful palace that once belonged to the renowned Chilean painter, Claudio Bravo. It was fascinating to learn about his life and work, especially his deep connection to Morocco. The palace itself is a work of art, with stunning architecture and intricate details. Wandering through the gardens, we discovered sculptures and exotic plants, all while enjoying a breathtaking view of the Atlas Mountains. It felt like stepping into another world, a serene escape from the bustling town. I was particularly impressed by Bravo's collection of Moroccan vases and ceramics, which added another layer of cultural richness to the experience.

Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.
Next on our itinerary was Bab El Kasbah, one of Taroudant's main gates. As we approached, the avenue of orange trees leading to the gate was a sight to behold. Built in the 16th and 17th centuries, the gate is an imposing structure with mighty defensive towers. We climbed the steps to the top of the tower and walked along the ramparts, taking in panoramic views of the town. From this vantage point, we could see the vibrant hues of Moroccan architecture set against the tranquil landscape. It was a perfect spot for photography, and I snapped several pictures of the breathtaking vistas. The history of the gate is palpable, and it's easy to imagine the sultans and formal convoys passing through this main entrance.

I opted for a savory tagine bursting with spices, while Max tried the succulent grilled meats. The portions were generous, and the flavors were rich and satisfying. The staff were incredibly friendly, sharing their knowledge about Moroccan cuisine and making recommendations. The restaurant's location made it a perfect pit stop after exploring the historical sights of Taroudant. Elena enjoyed some roasted chicken, and even she agreed it was delicious. The weather today was typical for August in Taroudant, with high temperatures hovering around 39°C during the day and cooling down to around 24°C at night. The skies were mostly clear, with plenty of sunshine. It was hot, but manageable with plenty of water and shade. I was glad I packed my sunscreen, even though I forgot my sunglasses! I really should make a better packing list for future trips.
Tomorrow, we’re planning to visit Dar El Baroud and Oasis Tiout. I’m particularly excited about Oasis Tiout, as I've heard it's a refreshing green escape. I'm looking forward to sharing those experiences with you all as well. Good night from Taroudant!
