Exploring Kep's Coastal and Natural Wonders
Today was a day of embracing the coastal beauty and natural landscapes of Kep. From relaxing on the beach to hiking through the national park and indulging in delicious local cuisine, it was a day filled with exploration and delightful discoveries. I was excited to share this experience with my family, and Kep certainly didn't disappoint.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at 1960. The ambiance was perfect for a relaxed start, and we enjoyed some local pastries and strong coffee, fueling up for the day’s adventures. Lara was particularly fond of the fresh fruit platter, while Hans enjoyed a traditional Khmer breakfast dish. I savored a quiet moment, reflecting on how much I cherish these family moments, especially in a place so rich with culture and history.
With our appetites satisfied, we headed to Kep Beach. The beach, though not the most pristine I've seen, had a unique charm. The sand was soft, and the water was calm, perfect for a leisurely morning. We rented a parasol and some chairs and simply relaxed, soaking in the sun and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. Lara built sandcastles with Hans, while I took a stroll along the shore, observing the local fishermen and the vibrant beach life. The beach is known for its shallow waters, making it safe for wading and swimming. It was a pleasant way to unwind and enjoy the coastal scenery.

The beauty of Kep lies not just in its landscapes, but in the simple joys of experiencing it with loved ones.
After our relaxing beach time, we decided to explore Kep National Park. Knowing that the main entrance to the park is located behind the Veranda Natural Resort, we made our way there. I had packed our essentials – comfortable walking shoes, reusable water bottles, and of course, my camera. I was a little disappointed that I had forgotten our rain ponchos and insect repellent, but we were determined to make the most of it.
The park offered a variety of trails, from leisurely strolls to more challenging hikes. We opted for a moderate trail that promised scenic viewpoints. As we started our hike, we were immediately immersed in the lush greenery of the Cambodian jungle. The air was fresh, and the sounds of nature surrounded us. The trails were well-marked with yellow signposts, making it easy to navigate.

During our hike, we encountered diverse flora and fauna. We spotted monkeys swinging through the trees and various bird species. Lara was particularly excited about the monkeys, and Hans, ever the patient photographer, captured some great shots of them. We also came across several viewpoints that offered breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline and the Gulf of Thailand. The views were truly spectacular, and we took our time to soak them in and capture the beauty with our cameras. I felt a sense of gratitude for being able to share this experience with my family.
After a few hours of hiking, we were ready for lunch. We headed to MasalaTwist Indian Halal Restaurant, a place I had read about and was eager to try. The restaurant offered a wide range of Indian dishes, catering to halal dietary requirements. As we stepped inside, we were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor was tastefully done, and the staff was friendly and attentive.

We ordered a variety of dishes, including butter chicken, lamb vindaloo, and some vegetarian options. Each dish was bursting with flavor, and the spices were perfectly balanced. Lara particularly enjoyed the creamy butter chicken, while Hans savored the spicy lamb vindaloo. I was impressed by the quality of the food and the authenticity of the flavors. It was a delightful culinary experience, and we all left feeling satisfied and content. It was fascinating to taste the flavors of India so far from home.
In the late afternoon, we decided to do some shopping. We visited Brand INT Collection Kampot, a local clothing store that offered a variety of stylish garments. The store had a welcoming ambiance, and we enjoyed browsing through the latest fashion trends. Lara found a cute dress, while Hans picked up a new shirt. I found a beautiful scarf that I knew would remind me of our trip to Cambodia. Supporting local businesses is something I always try to do when I travel, and it felt good to contribute to the local economy.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to TUKTUK BBQ & Rooftop Bar for dinner. This place offered stunning views of the sunset, and we were excited to enjoy a delicious meal while watching the sky transform into a canvas of vibrant colors. The rooftop bar had a relaxed and festive atmosphere. The BBQ was a fun and interactive experience, and we enjoyed grilling our own meats and vegetables. The food was delicious, and the views were simply breathtaking. It was the perfect way to end our day in Kep.

As we head back to our guesthouse, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for this incredible journey and the opportunity to share it with the people I love.
