The Fairhope Municipal Pier, often called the "town square" of Fairhope, Alabama, is a 1,448-foot pier that extends into the serene Mobile Bay. Built on the site of the city's original commercial pier from 1895, it has evolved into a recreational and social hub for both locals and tourists. Originally constructed as a wooden pier to accommodate steamboats, it played a crucial role in connecting Fairhope to other parts of Alabama and fostering economic development. Over the years, the pier has faced numerous challenges, including significant damage from hurricanes. It was rebuilt with concrete in 1968 to enhance its durability. The pier was severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but it was rebuilt and reopened in 2006. Today, the Fairhope Municipal Pier offers a variety of amenities, including benches, covered areas, restrooms, a marina, and a restaurant. It is a popular spot for fishing, walking, bird watching, and enjoying the scenic views of Mobile Bay. The adjacent North Beach Park features a rose garden, fountain, picnic tables, a duck pond, and a sandy beach.
