    From downtown Decatur, the Cook Museum is easily accessible on foot. From the Morgan County Courthouse, walk northeast on 4th Ave NE for approximately three blocks. The museum will be on your left, adjacent to the primary parking lot.

    NARCOG Transit provides public transportation in Decatur. To reach the museum, schedule a ride at least 24 hours in advance by calling (256) 580-2088. A one-way trip within the Decatur Urban Area costs $2. Exact change is required.

    If driving, the Cook Museum is located at 133 4th Ave NE, Decatur, AL 35601. Primary parking is available adjacent to the museum. If the primary lot is full, secondary parking is available at 429 Holly St NE, 431 Holly St NE, and 510 Cherry St NE. Free street-side parking is also available in downtown Decatur. The City Parking Deck on the corner of Moulton Street and 1st Avenue offers paid parking at a rate of $0.50 per hour.

The Cook Museum of Natural Science is a state-of-the-art natural science museum located in downtown Decatur, Alabama. The museum's roots trace back to 1968 when John Cook, Sr., opened his insect collection to the public. Over time, the collection grew to include mounted wildlife, rocks, minerals, and more. The original Cook's Natural Science Museum opened in 1980 and welcomed over 750,000 visitors before closing in 2016 for a complete reinvention. The new Cook Museum of Natural Science opened in June 2019. The 62,000-square-foot museum features a variety of exhibits that explore North American biomes, from deserts to oceans. Highlights include a 15,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, an immersive cave experience, and a forest exhibit with a climbable tree and rope bridge. Visitors can also enjoy live animal exhibits, including baby alligators, turtles, snakes, jellyfish, and various fish and insects. Interactive exhibits like the kinetic sand table, digital seashell generator, and a meteorite from outer space provide hands-on learning opportunities. The Cook Museum is committed to accessibility, with wheelchair-accessible entrances, spacious exhibit areas, elevators, and sensory-friendly resources. The museum also offers a café, Nature's Table, and three classrooms for educational programs and events.
