Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving to Maggie's Glen from the main entrance of Oak Mountain State Park, start by entering the park and following the main road, which is called Oak Mountain Access Road. Drive for about 3 miles until you reach a fork in the road. Take the left fork onto Shackleford Trail. Continue driving for approximately 1 mile. Look for a small parking area on the right side of the road near the trailhead for Maggie's Glen. The trailhead is well-marked, and you can park your car here. Make sure to check if there are any parking fees at the entrance of the park.

• Public Transportation

  If you are relying on public transportation, take a bus to Birmingham, Alabama, and then use a rideshare service or taxi to reach Oak Mountain State Park. Once you arrive at the main entrance of the park, follow the same directions as if you were driving. You can either walk or bike (if available) to Maggie's Glen. Note that public transportation options may require multiple transfers, so plan your trip accordingly. Be aware that the cost for rideshare services will vary depending on the distance and demand.

• Hiking

  For those who are already in Oak Mountain State Park and prefer to hike, from the park's main lodge, take the Oak Mountain Trail which connects to Shackleford Trail. This will be a scenic hike of about 2 miles. Follow the signs for Maggie's Glen once you merge onto Shackleford Trail. The trail is well-maintained and offers beautiful views of the surrounding nature, making it a pleasant journey. Be sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring plenty of water.
