The park's centerpiece is the Penn Yonge House, an antebellum home built for Penn Yonge by Horace King, a freed slave and renowned bridge builder. The house, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, showcases Gothic Revival architecture and offers a glimpse into the past.Originally a 455-acre plantation with a 30-acre spring-fed lake, Spring Villa was a showplace known for its elaborate social gatherings. The City of Opelika acquired the property in 1927 and used its springs as the city's water supply until 1946, with the property last being used as a public water supply in 1988.Today, Spring Villa Park offers a variety of recreational activities. Visitors can explore nature trails, enjoy the outdoor volleyball court and horseshoe pit, or have a picnic. The park also features a campground with hookups, restrooms, and a lodge suitable for gatherings. For sports enthusiasts, there's an archery park with shooting houses and 3D archery courses, as well as two 18-hole disc golf courses.While the original spring-fed lake is now dry, Spring Villa Park remains a landmark that contributes to a deeper understanding of American heritage.
