Walking

The Paul R. Jones Museum is located in downtown Tuscaloosa at 2308 6th Street. From the intersection of University Boulevard and 6th Street, walk south on 6th Street for approximately 0.5 miles. The museum will be on your right. The walk is about 1 mile and 20 minutes.
Public Transport

Parking

The Tuscaloosa Intermodal Facility (IMF), a free four-story parking deck, is located at the corner of 7th St. and 23rd Ave, within walking distance of the Paul R. Jones Museum. From the IMF, walk south on 7th Street, then turn left onto 6th Street. The museum will be on your left. Parking is free.

Born in Alabama in 1928, Jones experienced firsthand the racial discrimination of the time, being denied admission to the University of Alabama's law school due to his race. Undeterred, he became a champion for social justice and a fervent supporter of Black artists, collecting their work when it was often overlooked by the mainstream art world. In 2008, Jones donated over 1,700 pieces of his collection, valued at $5 million, to the University of Alabama, an act of extraordinary generosity to the institution that had once rejected him. The Paul R. Jones Museum was established in 2011 to exhibit this remarkable collection, which has since grown to over 2,000 items representing a variety of media and over 600 artists. The museum's exhibitions rotate regularly, providing visitors with fresh perspectives on the collection and showcasing the work of both established and emerging artists.
