Kuzum Baba: Vlorë's Spiritual Overlook

Kuzum Baba, perched on a hill overlooking Vlorë, is a significant religious and cultural site. This natural terrace, approximately 30 meters above sea level, is named after Seyyid Ali Sultan, also known as Father Kuzum, a revered Bektashi leader believed to be buried here. The site attracts pilgrims and tourists alike, drawn to its spiritual atmosphere and stunning views.The Bektashi order, a Sufi branch of Islam, has deep historical roots in Albania. A Bektashi temple (tekke) was constructed here around 1600, becoming an important center of Bektashi influence in the 17th century. The tekke was destroyed in 1826 but later rebuilt. After a period of closure during a religion ban, it reopened in 1992 and remains one of the most important Bektashi centers in Albania.Visitors can explore the temple and enjoy panoramic views of Vlorë, the Adriatic Sea, and the surrounding landscape. Kuzum Baba is not only a place of worship but also a vantage point for capturing beautiful photographs, especially at sunrise or sunset. A restaurant with a terrace is located near the shrine. The site offers a blend of culture, nature, and tranquility, making it a unique destination in Albania.
